The multi-talented and well respected versatile rock guitarist Douglas Layng Aldrich (born February 19th, 1964, in Raleigh, North Carolina) first cut his teeth with local bands in Philadelphia (his family moved to the city as he started high school) after his sister influenced Doug with her guitar, "I gravitated towards my younger sister, Janet's classical guitar and slowly began teaching myself how to play." He formed the trio "Fighter" with friends at school, but after graduating Doug moved to California in the early 80s. One of the first auditions he attended was for KISS who were looking to replace Ace Frehley in 1982. He was too young and lacked experience at this stage in his career but he struck up a relationship with Gene Simmons (KISS’ bass player) which still lasts today. After meeting up with some friends and getting involved in the Los Angeles rock scene he formed the band Lion. The band recorded two albums (one of them inclu- des the “The Transformers” theme) and one EP from 1986 to 1989 and had a top 20 video on MTV's Head Bangers Ball. During this period Doug was a highly sought after guitar instructor. He taught over 70 students a week and had several that would go onto play with well-known LA bands. Shortly after Lion split-up, Doug would go on to work with the bands Hurricane and House of Lords. In The '90's, Doug helped form the band, Bad Moon Rising. The band took off in Asia and Europe, recording albums and playing numerous European and Japanese tours. He would also record the solo albums "High- centered" and "Electrovision" during this period. In 1998 Doug put together his next venture Burning Rain which through a period of around four years and two albums gained a wide fan base across the world and critical acclaim throughout Europe, Japan and the US. However Burning Rain was interrupted when Doug was invited to join Dio, led by one of the world’s leading rock vocalists Ronnie James Dio. He had been invited ten years before but had decided to pursue his own path, but this time round he felt the time was right. A few years with Dio would then lead Doug to join another leading rock vocalist when he linked up with David Coverdale and Whitesnake. After forming a close and solid bond with Coverdale, Doug would go on to spend ten years recording and touring with Whitesnake before choosing to take a step back for family reasons. In 2015 Doug was touring as guitar player of former Deep Purple bassist and vocalist Gleen Hughes band. Before stepping in to the latest line-up of The Dead Daisies in January of 2016, Doug along with Night Ranger vocalist/bassist Jack Blades and former Journey drummer Deen Castronovo formed the power trio Revolution Saints which takes up some of Dougs downtime when he is not touring the world or recording great music with The Dead Daisies, with whom has released two albums. Doug normally plays Gibson Les Paul and Fender Stratocaster through hot-rodded Marshall JMP and Vinta- ge Modern amps. Actually he is an addicted collector of vintage instruments and amps. His variety of over twenty-five guitars, consists of a few collectable vintage Les Pauls, Guild acoustics, and a wide range of Fender Stratocasters - one of Doug's most favorite guitars.
