Aim:  To  allow  players  of  all  ages  and  abili2es,  to  develop  to  their  full  poten2al,  in  an  ENJOYABLE,  CHALLENGING  and  POSITIVE  environment.      Objec=ves:      Create  a  clear  and  simple  pathway  for  player  development.      Always  keep  the  player  at  the  center  of  the  development  process.  Allow  players  as  much  ac2ve  2me  with  a  ball  each,  as  possible.      Teach  the  principles  of  the  game.      Teach  “roles”  not  “posi=ons”.      Create  a  deep  and  underlying  passion  for  the  sport  of  soccer  at  all  ages.      Acknowledge  that  players  will  learn  and  develop  at  different  speeds.      To  keep  a  fresh  and  current  outlook  on  the  changes  in  young  player  development.

10 x 10 yard square. Players on outside count passes in succession. Split pass counts as 2 points. Defenders must win or disrupt 3 possessions to get out. Same as 4v2 however passing team now have a target player in the middle. PROGRESSION Limit touches (2 potentially 1 touch). Adjust the playing area. COACHING POINTS Can midfielder move intelligently to provide support rather than just chase the ball. Awareness (of self, ball, pressure and options). 1st touch control (away from pressure) Decision making (split pass or away from pressure). Pass control (weight and direction). Communication (visual & verbal) Movement off the ball (support must come early).

4v2  +  1  

10 x 10 yard area. 4 outside players attempt to retain possession from the 2 defenders. Players keep count of passes 2 points if the pass splits the defenders, 1 point for a pass to either side. PROGRESSION Limit touches (2 potentially 1 touch). Adjust the playing area. COACHING POINTS Awareness (of self, ball, pressure and options). 1st touch control (away from pressure) Decision making (split pass or away from pressure). Pass control (weight and direction). Add in gates to act as goals, successful pass made through gate and received by team mate counts as a goal. ORGANIZATION Two small areas of 15 x 15, creating one big area of 30 x 15. 2 teams of 4. Play 4 v 2 in one area, when ball is lost or out of bounds play switches to other side. Coach plays ball in once possession switches. PROGRESSION Limit touches. 10 passes = 1 goal. If defenders win the ball they get a goal if they can transfer ball over to their attacking area. Play 4v3 Reduce size of area. COACHING POINTS Awareness & decision making Communication (visual & verbal) Pass control (weight, direction) Movement and support off the ball. Transition sense.

Rotate direction to encourage use of both feet. Angled pass inside of cone so player receiving moves on to the ball. PROGRESSION Limit touches. Can we play one touch? Add more balls to starting position. Players play give and go at corner. Play pass with outside of foot. Player 1 plays to player 2 who then sets up player 1 to play a diagonal pass to player 3. Player 3 then sets back to player 2 who plays diagonally to player 4 and so on. All players move to next corner after they have played diagonally. COACHING POINTS Look and check away to create space. Timing of movement – read game. Passing technique – weight and accuracy. Push pass/outside of foot pass. Communication – verbal and body language.

ORGANIZATION 30 X 20 yard area. Play 4v4+3 Red team of 4 defend in middle area against Blue team of 4 on outside and team of 3 neutral players. Goal scored when central player only plays a pass. Central player not allowed to play back to outside player on the same line. Must turn and switch the play. Each team should have 2 players on the outside corner, 1 player on the 2nd cone and 1 player on the 3rd cone. 1 plays to 2, 2 back to 1, 1 plays to 3, 3 switches to 1 of the next group. Player 1 takes player 2’s position, 3 to 3, 3 to 4 and 4 takes player 1’s position. PROGRESSIONS Keep adding balls until 4 are in play at once. Play 1 touch only. Change directions. COACHING POINTS Body shape (balanced and open to play) Quality of pass (weight and direction) Communication (visual and verbal). Speed of play & movement off the ball.

ORGANIZATION Area 20 x 20 yards. Have P1 starts with the ball, passes to the centre player and follows their pass. Centre player takes a touch out of the feet then passes to P2 and follows their pass. P2 dribbles back to the start. Exercise repeats with centre players rotating passes to P2 & P3. PROGRESSION Play 1 / 2 touch. Centre player plays back to P1 who then plays to P2. P2 passes back to P1 and follows pass. COACHING POINTS Pass quality (weight and direction). Speed of play (1 or 2 touch). Communication (visual and verbal). Centre player open body to see where ball is coming from and also next pass. Teams score 1 goal by dribbling forward through any gate and 2 goals by scoring past goalkeeper. PROGRESSION Teams also score by playing a pass through gate to team mate who has to have control when receiving. Add more gates. Remove one player from a team to create an overload (ie, 6v5). Remove player from both teams who become neutral (5v5+2). One team has only 5 passes to get a shot on goal. Other team on touch limit. COACHING POINTS Nearest player pressures the ball. ORGANIZATION 60 x 40 Field. 2 teams 8v8 in formation 2 - 4- 1. Middle zone 10 yards wide. 5 yards either side of halfway line. When not in possession defending team has to retreat in to middle and defending zones. Only 1 defender is allowed in final attacking zone until possession is retained. PROGRESSION Only one team has to retreat playing low pressure. Other team can play as normal. Limit one team so they have to shoot within 8 passes. If they don’t shoot the ball switches to the opposition Goalkeeper. Switch the rule for the teams after 3 minutes. Remove player from one team to create overload. (2 - 3 - 1). PROGRESSION A – Start by feeding ball into feet facing goal, players have one touch to control then shoot. Ensure players first touch goes in different direction for each shot. B – First touch takes player around outside of shooting gates, allow extra touch if needed. Same as before ensure players vary direction. C – In central area 2 players combine before feeding striker. Striker tries to turn with first touch then shoot. D– Player checks away then makes angled run outside of gate. Pass through gate to run on to and shoot. In wide area add player to receive initial pass from server who then plays through pass to striker. Add in cone behind gates so player has to move and touch before receiving ball. COACHING POINTS Movement before receiving pass, check away from server. Angled run, always face the ball. Awareness and angle of pass, body behind ball to help first touch. First touch, in to space. ORGANIZATION 40 x 40 Area or half field with 4 goals, 2 at each end. Play 4v4 with 2 GK’s for each team. One team can score in two goals in same direction,other team score in the other two goals. If goal scored opposition start with ball from GK. Ball goes out of play re start with throw in or kick in. PROGRESSION Play with just 1 central goal per team. 2 Touch only before shooting. Coach plays ball to midfielder #8 who plays directly wide for #7 to run onto and cross. #9 and #10 attack box looking to score. Add in an area around penalty spot for attackers to run in to and for crossing player to use as a target to deliver ball. Work opposite side by #10 receiving the ball. PROGRESSION Other wide player attacks box when not crossing. 2 Touch limit for crossing player. First time finish for strikers. Different combination, (ie, #8 plays to #10 who then switches point of attack and plays wide to #11). Vary movement of striker / midfielders, cross over runs - #9 attacks far post/ #10 attacks near post. Wide players to cross using opposite foot to create both out-swinging and in-swinging crosses. ORGANIZATION Set up 8v8 unopposed practice but use half field only. Blue team goalkeeper starts with ball. Team plays towards opposition goal looking to score, opposing team (red) are stationery defenders. Team in possession can combine in any way to score. Allow team to express themselves and come up with their own ideas. Repeat practice with Red team attacking. Play offside rule. PROGRESSION Defenders become passive, allowed to move but only to add pressure and cover runs by attackers. At no point should they make contact with player or ball. Add in a minimum / maximum number of passes before shooting. Touch limit for each player. Add in specific type of combination play before shooting (ie, overlapping run / cross / switch play) Designate one particular player who has to take a shot. Defending players can move across half way line if they play a pass to attacking player in central area only. They return back once transition takes place. Any defender can move forward either by dribbling in to attacking area or team mate playing a pass forward to central attacking players. At all times should be at least 2 defenders in own area. COACHING POINTS Awareness of ball, team mates and opposition. Communication (visual & verbal). Movement and support off the ball + speed of play. Combination play when outnumbering opposition. Overload  leading  to  3v3  

ORGANIZATION Half field with width of penalty area. 6 outfield players and 1 goalkeeper. All players start between central cones on half way line. Red P1 dribbles towards goal for 1v1 with GK. Shot must be taken outside of penalty area. Once shot has been taken Blue P1 & P2 attack goal in a 2v1 overload against Red P1. As above Red P2 & P3 attack goal along with P1 creating 3v2 against Blue P1 & P2. Repeat steps with Blue P3 attacking to create 3v3 . If defender wins ball or GK saves then next transition starts. Rotate teams so they take it in turns attacking in 1v1 situation. PROGRESSION Touch limit (not when 1v1). Shot must be taken with first touch. Add neutral players wide to offer more support.
