MARCHING BAND, CONCERT BAND, DRUMLINE, COLORGUARD IN THIS ISSUE

My name is Arianna Flores, I am assistant drum major, flute section leader, and pit captain for drumline. I have done mainly concert band at Franklin High School since my seventh grade year and started drumline no more than two years ago. This 2017-2018 year is the first year that the “Marching Yellow Jackets”, once the pride of Franklin, is beginning to surface again and show their Jacket pride at competitions. The band and colorguard have put in countless hours perfecting their music and marching techniques. I can’t even begin to express the amount of joy and happiness it brings me to

see the program that my aunts and uncles were apart of rise again. The students have done so much work, but this wouldn’t even be a reality without the help and inspiration of our amazing teacher and instructors. I strongly believe that between colorguard, drumline and marching band

Franklin will once more have a great marching and performing program. I cannot wait to see how much we will grow and how far we will go in the next couple of years. I expect great things to come out of these programs.

Competition Recap A summary of information from our first marching competition in almost a decade!

Join the Boosters!

Dear Parents/Legal Guardians,

First, I want to welcome you to our very exciting 2017-2018 school year. As most of you know, we have hit the ground running. And our plan is to never look back. We started with our band camp and in one week, we were able to learn marching techniques to begin our path to marching competitions. Now, after the completion of our first marching band review and we prepare for the upcoming competitions, we are looking for parents volunteers to form our Band Boosters. During the end of parade season, we will also be getting ready for our Winter Drumline season, and after over a ten year break, we’re proud to bring back our Winter Colorguard! Our students are very enthusiastic and eager to do all of these events, but, the success of all of these events relies on enthusiastic and supportive parents, like yourself.

What are the Band Boosters?

A booster club is an organization that is formed to support an associated organization. The booster club can support groups through raising funds or coordinating events. The main purpose of this Booster clubs is to develop support and raise funds for the student program. Many times booster clubs are also formed to help enhance programs that may have shrinking budgets.

Band Boosters play a very crucial role in the success/failure of a band program. There are certain fundraising ideas that can only be done by Band Boosters i.e., Car Shows, Feeds (crab, spaghetti, breakfast, or even tamale), raffles, and every other creative idea that you can bring. But it’s not only fundraising. With a lot of these events we have planned, having parents help in any aspect is severely needed. Carpooling to competitions, helping with lunch/refreshments for the students during rehearsals

and competitions are other ways that will build both confidence and school pride in the students, and put Franklin High School back on the map! Also utilizing your gifts, talents, abilities, or even trucks for hauling the trailer to competitions is a welcoming gift you bring to the table. You are a very important part to the success of the Music Department! Together, we will make a program that will leave a lasting memory for our children.

Franklin Yellow Jacket

Marching Band has a

lot of members that are

passionate and are

energetic

to the

vision

and the

goal of

the music

program.

There are

students that are stellar

both in the spotlight,

and behind the scenes

that have performed

magnificently.

During our first band

review, Veronica

Velasquez showed so

much leadership. She

was making sure that

every group was on

task, and everyone was

prepared to compete.

She was handling

business, and making

sure that the band was

thoroughly warmed

up.

While it’s easy to

compliment the

student that’s in the

spotlight, sometimes

it’s the ones

behind the

scenes that

goes

unrecognized.

Angela

Segura, Faith

Parker, and

Jose Garibay didn’t

put on a uniform, but

without their

performance Saturday,

it would have been so

much more of a

challenge. They say,

“Many hands make

light work,” and

everyone here made

Saturday flow that

much easier!
