GRE The Graduate Record Examinations or GRE is an examination needed to get admission into a foreign university to pursue a post graduation course.

Contrary to popular perception, a GRE score can be used to apply to all kinds of graduate schools, including some of the world’s top business schools like Harvard, Wharton and Stanford.

While all science, arts and commerce students must take the GRE as part of their application process, business schools usually accept both scores, making it viable for a student who for example wishes to pursue an M.S. in Financial Engineering to apply for a GRE to hedge his bets

The GRE revised General Test — the most widely accepted graduate admissions test worldwide has following sections:

Verbal Reasoning — Measures your ability to analyze and evaluate written material and synthesize information obtained from it, analyze relationships among component parts of sentences and recognize relationships among words and concepts.

Quantitative Reasoning — Measures your basic mathematical skills, your understanding of elementary mathematical concepts, and your ability to reason quantitatively and solve problems in a quantitative setting. There is a balance of questions requiring arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis.

Analytical Writing — Measures critical thinking and analytical writing skills, specifically your ability to articulate and support complex ideas clearly and effectively.
