*René Magritte was a Belgian surrealist artist and was best known for his strange, witty and thought provoking artwork. When Magritte was 14 years old, on 12 March 1912 Magritte's mother committed suicide by drowning herself in the River Sambre.

*In 1926, Magritte produced his first surreal painting The Lost Jockey. In 1927 he moved from his home town in Belgium to paris.
