Goulburn Public SchoolAnnual School Report 2014
2053
School context statementGoulburn Public School is the oldest school in Goulburn and was established by the NSW Department of Education in 1868. The school is set within attractive grounds with beautiful heritage buildings and continues to build upon its proud tradition of working with the community to provide the best possible learning outcomes for all students.
The school makes valuable use of its excellent facilities by offering a wide range of educational opportunities, with students and teachers working to ensure that students reach their full potential while experiencing success within a happy and supportive educational environment. Meeting individual learning needs, effective use of computer technology, development of sporting skills, providing valuable cultural experiences and a positive approach to student welfare are features of our learning environment.
Goulburn Public School has a number of special facilities including a school canteen, Schools as Community Centre, Out of Hours School Care and a Paint and Play program for preschool children.
At Goulburn Public School we work with parents, members of the community and community groups to enhance the educational opportunities for our students, providing a learning setting which is positive, comprehensive, caring and stimulating.

Principal’s messageI am pleased to present the 2014 Goulburn Public School Annual School Report. The Goulburn Public School Community has enjoyed another successful and positive year. We have enjoyed participating in a number of worthwhile programs, special events and learning opportunities. We have also supported many of the excellent initiatives that run at Goulburn Public School including the Community Pre-School programs, Cool Kids Before and After School Care and our transition to school program. We are proud of the school’s partnerships with many community groups including The Smith Family, Home Start Australia, Families First and the Goulburn Regional Conservatorium of Music.
We have continued to build upon our teaching and learning initiatives with a focus on improved learning outcomes for our students. Some highlights of successful include programs such as Accelerated Literacy, Mathletics, Boys Literacy Groups and the GPS Strings Project.
As this is my last year as Principal of Goulburn Public School I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff, students and parents for their support over the last eight years and to say that I am very proud of all our achievements and I wish everyone all the very best in the years to come.
I certify that the information in this report is the result of a rigorous school self-evaluation process and is a balanced and genuine account of the school’s achievements and areas for development.

School Captains messageWe have had a great year this year being the 2014 school captains at Goulburn Public School.
We have loved the opportunity to represent the school on special occasions such as at the Rocky Hill Memorial Forecourt Opening, the Mayoral Reception at Goulburn Mulwaree Council and at the GRIP Leadership day. Some of the other things we have especially enjoyed being school captains are helping out in Breakfast Club, Friday assemblies, School Jobs (such as Rolls, Bell, Lunch Orders, Newsletters, Level sheets, Bins). We have also liked all the Sport, the Christmas Concert and the Talent Quest. We have loved being Peer Support leaders and we had a great day at the Peer Support tabloids leading our teams through so many fun activities.
We have enjoyed our Captains duties this year when we have had visiting performances like Snake Tails, Lorin Nicholson, Swag of Tales and both the Life Education and Royal Far West Health Vans. We have both also enjoyed being House Captains and leading our houses at the carnivals and for special sports activities.
We would like to say thank you to all the students and staff at Goulburn Public School for making our year as School Captains such a special and fun year and we wish everyone all the best for next year and the years to come.

Significant programs and initiatives – Policy and equity funding Schools As Community Centre
2014 marked the tenth year of operation for the Goulburn Schools as Community Centre. The Goulburn SaCC is now well established in the local community with a number of organisations using the facilities on a regular basis.
Two outstanding highlights in 2014 were the ongoing growth and development of the Outreach Playgroup program which provides programs in 9 local communities for parents and young children and the expansion of the Breakfast Club program which operates in 7 schools in Goulburn and the Goulburn District.
May saw the celebration of families week with a lunch and activities for all local playgroups at the
9
school and highlights included the farm yard animals and the jumping castle.
In September we held the yearly SPACExpo supported by the Goulburn Workers Club and both the Goulburn Mulwaree and Upper Lachlan Shire Councils which includes all schools in the Goulburn and District area. Thankyou once again to students from Mulwaree and Goulburn High Schools who provided invaluable support.
We have continued to strengthen the Lets Read program in the maternity unit at the Goulburn Base Hospital which is a joint project between Greater Southern Area Health, Smith Family and SaCC. We are hoping to extend this program over the next five years to support all children born at Goulburn Base Hospital and to continue our partnership with the Goulburn Mulwaree Library.
Agencies and Services
2014 has seen the continued strengthening and extension of the partnership and relationships formed between local agencies, services and the Goulburn SaCC. This has in turn led to improved linking for the students, parents, families, and community. This function has continued to expand and has had a very positive effect on streamlining the approach and consistency between the families, schools, agencies, services and the community.
A strong and positive network of agencies, service providers and organisations is operating at present through the SaCC, with ongoing commitment from the agencies and organisations to the Families NSW strategies. This commitment continues to grow and expand to support the community.
The SaCC Coordinator continues to be actively involved in facilitating the link between the school, community and service agencies through involvement such as chairing of the Families First Sothern Tablelands Network and membership of both the Goulburn Family Support Service management committee and the Family Case Management Committee.
2014 has been a very positive and successful year at Goulburn SaCC and I look forward to continuing to build on these successes in 2015.
