Workspace Emergency
A workspace emergency is an unforeseen situation that threatens employee, customers, or the public; disrupts or shutdown your operations; or causes physical or environmental damage.
Emergencies may be natural or manmade and include the following
Floods Hurricanes, Tornadoes Fires, Explosions
Toxic gas releases Chemical spills, Workplace violence
resulting in bodily harm and trauma
Emergency Action Plan
An Emergency Action Plan (EAP) covers designated actions employers and employees must take to ensure employee safety from workspace or industrial or emergencies.
It beneficial to include the management team andemployees in the process. Explain the goal of protecting lives and property in the
event of an emergency, and ask for their help in establishing and implementing the emergency action plan.
Minimal EAP Requirement
At a minimum, the emergency action plan must include the following
– A preferred method for reporting the emergencies– An evacuation policy and procedure– Emergency escape procedures & route
assignments• Floor plans• workplace maps• safe or refuge areas
Minimal EAP Requirement
– Names, titles, departments, and telephone numbers of individuals both within and outside of the company to contact
• for additional information or • explanation of duties and responsibilities
under the emergency plan– oraganization also may want to consider
designating an assembly location and procedures • to account for all employees after an
evacuation.

Emergency Response Team An incident response team or emergency response team
(ERT) is a group of people who prepare for and respond to any emergency incident
such as a natural disaster or an interruption of business operations.
