Award Winners Shine at InstallationsDepartment of Colorado officials Pat Smith
and Lynn Cody administered oaths of office to Post 178’s newly elected Legion and Auxiliary officers at the Installation Dinner and Awards Ceremony on June 8, 2013. Similar duty for the Sons was performed by the Post’s Barb Bun-ting. Non-stop complements were overheard for Karen Black’s outstanding, homemade, full-course lasagna dinner eagerly served by Boy and Girl Scout troops. Her sister and niece, Kim and Sarah Merr, were indispensable assistants.
Pat Smith, Department Adjutant and Past Department Commander, delivered the keynote ad-dress in which he recalled many captivating memo-ries about his close personal connection with our Post over the decades. Police Officer of the Year, Detective Dave Adams of the Lakewood Police Department, delivered encouraging words about his work with at-risk youths in our community. Outgo-ing Commander Wayne McClimans ably conducted the evening’s proceedings and bid farewell by citing a poignant entry from his formerly-secret book of quotes. Outgoing officers received accolades and awards from their respective unit leaders, after which Post 178’s highest honors were bestowed.

First, I would like to thank Wayne McClimans for the work he has done over the past few years. I hope to continue in his footsteps, with his help of course. Thank you Wayne.
Summer is here, and we will not hold monthly meetings in July and August. We’ll be expecting a good turn out when we get back to business in September.
Independence Day will be here soon, and I’d like to thank everyone who volunteers to help with the Post’s annual picnic in advance. We couldn’t do this without our volunteers.
Please have a safe and wonderful summer, and remember our troops. Keep them always in your prayers.

Starting a new year with one year under my belt and hope to improve a number of
things. 2014 Dues are now being accepted. Pay now and keep your #.
This year’s Duck Race will be July 28th at 1 PM in Golden’s Vanover Park. Buy ducks at the Post for $2. Proceeds go to Child Welfare Foundation.

Have a safe and fun-filled summer. See ya all in September for the next meeting. Our Annual SAL Golf Tournament had great weather and a good turnout. Thanks to all!
QUACK!! QUACK!! Our Duck Race weekend is July 27 and 28. We need volunteers to help, especially Saturday the 27th. Please see Tom Tucker or Bill Radunz for info.
Remember, it’s only a “Two Bucks-A-Duck.” We’ll also have plenty of t-shirts, hats, and baby ducks for purchase from your friendly Bartender or SAL Officer. It all goes to a great cause and we’re going to try to go national with it.
All right guys, we need you to step up to the line on this one. I know it is bad timing, but our 1st Annual Conrad West Horseshoe Tournament is also scheduled for Saturday the 27th, at 1:00 PM. It’s go-ing to be a 50-50 split; half goes to Collier Hospice in Connie’s name and the other half to the winners. I’m personally asking all Son’s to step up...and that includes you SAL Riders. Fliers are up throughout the Post. Please see Tom T, Tom D, Chicago Tom, Tommy, Thomas, or your favorite Bartender to sign up.
I know this is a long one because I’m starting to get writer’s block and a cramp, so just a couple more.
Volunteer of the Month goes to Bill Radunz for his time and effort to once again put to-gether the SAL Golf Tournament. Thank you, Sir.
In closing, I’m sad to report the loss of a dynamite Son, Bennie Arledge. God’s Speed “Catfish”! This Bud’s for You!!

Our first picnic of the summer on Memorial Day was very well attended. Our door moni-tor volunteers distributed 344 wristbands and collected $743 from non-member guests. I cannot say thank you enough to the members who volunteer to staff the doors at
these events. Cash contributions to help defray the cost of beer were received from Terry and Maxine Peter-son, Barbara Bunting, Johnny Rabatin, Steve Tomlinson, and Wayne McClimans. Thank you all for your generosity. Steve Tomlinson and Bob Black did an outstanding job cooking. Thanks guys.
With the 4th of July picnic fast approaching we are again soliciting help to staff the doors. If you can volun-teer a half hour please sign up in the lounge.
We are planning a car and bike show as well as smoked meat competition on September 14. T-shirts will soon be available for purchase in the lounge.
I also want thank Frank Spano, George Thein, Jerry Stauter Jr., and Dave McBrien for placing new mulch in the back yard. Our goal down the road is to place more mulch along the white fence where we have rose bushes and other ground cover.
Business reportBob Heer
June was very busy for the Riders. Our Poker Run on June 8th raised $800. The Riders kicked in an additional $1103 for a total donation of $1903 for Redistribution Center Inc.
We continue to help RCI every Thursday by loading and sorting food and bedding destined for needy Vets. Twice each week we pickup bakery goods at RCI donated from Costco and bring them to the Post Bread Store for our members.
The Riders next charity Poker Run starts at 9:00 AM on Saturday, July 20th at the Post and includes a scavenger hunt, food, and music. Everyone is welcome to participate on a bike, in a hot rod, or just regular transportation.

Rider’s dinners are the 1st and 3rd Fridays of every month. Steak or salmon entrees with sides are only $8.00.
