AbouttheLabelSince1981,we’vebottledthefinestexpressionofthevintagewiththedesignationVintageReserveandauniqueartserieslabel.

Incommemorationofthewinery’s150thanniversary,theBundschufamilyspentthreeweekstravelingaroundtheUnitedStatesin2008.The experience inspired us to create a series of Vintage Reservelabels celebrating the richnessofAmerica’sdiverse culture, aswellas the common community that transcends our differences.The‘AmericanLandscape’seriesfeaturesartworkfromsixregionalartistscommissionedtoembodythespiritoftheircommunity.

In‘TheVillagethatOnceWas,’artistTonyAbeytapaystributetotheoldestcommunitiesinthenation,thepueblosoftheAmericanSouthwest. He reflects on a time and place that was aboutconnectionstonatureandsociety,evokingasenseofmysteryandloss,butalsoofaweandinspiration.

Forover1,000years,pueblopeopleshavecultivatedandveneratedanunforgivinglandscape.Ancientsettlersthrivedinsmallisolatedvillagesbyworkingtogethertodevelopknowledge,skillsandculture.

Inourmoderneraofglobalizationandurbanization,thestarkimageofanabandonedpueblobeneathanominousskynotonlycelebratesourheritageandhistory,itremindsustorecognizethestrength,theimportanceandthefragilityof smallcommunities inourmodernworld.

AbouttheArtistTony Abeyta was raised in the small community of Gallup,NMofNavajo andAnglo descent. He creates a powerful rangeof contemporary paintings, and explores different mediums.His individual style incorporates bold colors, rich textures andrepresentationsofNavajodeities.

“IwasraisedinasmalltownsurroundedbytheNavajoandZunireservation,withAcomaandLagunainmybackyard.Route66ranthrough townand the railroadaswell. Therewasalwaysa sensethattherewereotherplacestobe,andIleftGallupat16yearsoldtostudyartinSantaFeattheInstituteofAmericanIndianArt.”

Schoolwasimportant,andwasalicensetotraveltomanygreatplaces.TheMarylandInstituteofArtinBaltimore,LacosteSchoolofArtinsouthernFrance,SACIinFlorenceItaly,ChicagoArtInstitute,HaystackSchoolinMaine,andfinallyNYUforgraduatestudies.CurrentlyTonyhasstudiosinSantaFeandChicago.“Livinginanurbanplaceaddsanelementofprogressiveculturalexperience.Inacity there is thewholediscourseofcultures, thinking,musicandinternationalart.Iconsidermyselfaregionalist,acceptingthatmuchofwhatIdoistiedtoanativecultureandplace.Ifindthatartisconstantlymoving,reinventingandaffectedbythechangesinourcultureanditsgreattofeelpartofthatinsomeway.”
