PROCESSES
Initial assessment of student’s language indicated the need to:• develop oral language skills and confidence, especially vocabulary and
academic language.• improve expression and fluency• improve reading comprehension• extend developing writing skills • improve numeracy skills – Language of Maths and mental strategies / tables
Initial assessment of ICT TOOLS• 4 IWB’s, digital cameras and videos, connected classroom installed
We decided to:• focus on up - skilling staff in the use of technology to support ESL student
learning and language development• Purchase hardware devices (flip cameras, digital cameras iPods, iPads,
Nintendo Ds, Bee Bots)

• Student confidence - students immersed in technology at home and in the real world. - Motivates children to learn

• High student engagement - Interactive and encourages independent learning
• Authentic purpose -Gives children a real purpose for their learning - connects students to the real world. Feedback adds authenticity
to the learning activity.
• Improves the quality of work children produce
Why incorporate ICT?
• Audience – whole school, community, world. Creates learning communities
• Quality teaching programs-Design of rich tasks integrating oral, reading and
writing activities -Improves oral language reading and writing skills
• Scaffolded learning activities (modelled by teacher, group and pair work,
independent activities)
• Technology programs/hardware can be used as assessment tools eg.oral language
Why incorporate ICT?
What is a podcast? (see CD/handout)
• A podcast is like a radio show.
• instead of being broadcast live, a podcast is recorded and then distributed over the internet, so that you can listen to it whenever you please.
• Voices and sounds can be layered and manipulated to form whatever
sound you desire.

What is an educational blog? An educational blog is an online journal Platform to showcase students work
Audience: class, school, community, WORLD
Purpose:• a student writes about their learning which may be commented on by
other students, the teacher, parents or a wider audience as approved by the teacher.
• Parents read and comment on their child’s work and gain a deeper understanding of the explicit teaching and learning in which their child is engaged.
• Teachers can share quality programs and ideas
