This past year has been one of great accomplishment and transitions at the Brookline Community Foundation (BCF), with a new executive director bringing extensive leadership experience to the Foundation, and our president completing nearly a decade of work on behalf of Brookline and BCF. We are thrilled to announce our new board president, Frank Steinfield, who has been a trustee since 2008 and served as vice president for the past three years.
Our trustees continue to provide leadership and expertise across a range of fields, and we are grateful for the considerable time and resources they contributed this year. Operationally, BCF made big strides in hiring talented staff for key positions and by completing a massive transfer of data to a new, more powerful database, which brings BCF’s financial and grant-making infrastructure into the 21st century. We also hosted one of our most successful events to date, where we shared findings of a first-of-its-kind report, “Understanding Brookline,” with a sold-out audience of town leaders and citizens.
There is much work to be done as we build on these achievements. BCF, today, has three main priorities: We provide community leadership by building public understanding of the town’s changing needs, we award strategic grants to organizations poised to make the greatest difference in the community, and we cultivate local philanthropy by helping donors to multiply their impact.
We are currently developing a three-year strategic plan to ensure that BCF remains well positioned to take on the challenges that we face as a community and help make Brookline the best it can be.
As we look ahead, we feel privileged to be members of a vibrant community with active citizens, innovative non-profits, and supportive local businesses. As the generosity and participation of so many of you demonstrate, Brookline residents are invested in the well- being of each other and our town. Together, we are building a better Brookline.
Sincerely,
JENNY AMORYExecutive Director

As the only community foundation for the town, the Brookline Community Foundation (BCF) is committed to building public understanding of our community’s needs and to engaging residents in finding solutions to shared challenges. Through research and convening, we aim to explore timely topics of importance to our community, inform and enhance public dialogue, and shine a spotlight on issues that require collective thinking and action.
In 2012, BCF invested in consolidating our latest research efforts for public dissemination. “Understanding Brookline: Emerging Trends and Changing Needs” (released in 2013) draws on U.S. Census and other data, as well as interviews with local leaders, to provide an up-to-date profile of our town. The publication represents a renewed commitment from the BCF Board of Trustees to the Foundation’s role as a community leader, inspiring residents to join with us in building a better Brookline.
Through its Understanding Brookline initiative, the Brookline Community Foundation exemplifies how an organization can support town leaders in designing creative solutions to the town’s challenges.”— PATR ICK DOBER, Execut ive Direc tor, Brookline Housing Authority

The Brookline Community Foundation (BCF) promotes a strong, vibrant, and inclusive community with grants that address the needs of Brookline’s most vulnerable populations and improve the quality of life of all residents. Each year we combine gifts from hundreds of donors to build the capacity of successful non-profits and nurture innovative new programs and partnerships. Our grants respond to important local needs, such as access to housing, education, and health care. BCF funds also strengthen local arts and culture organizations and promote a healthy, environmentally sustainable Brookline.
The BCF staff and Board of Trustees monitor trends across the town in order to direct funds to those organizations and initiatives that have the potential to make the greatest difference in our community.
With the help from the Brookline Community Foundation grant, we were able to provide low-income and often isolated elders with the benefits of an exercise program. Perhaps the greatest satisfaction came from a participant who explained that she can now walk up her stairs unassisted after taking our class.” — RUTHANN DOBEK , D irec tor, Brookline Council on Aging

The Brookline Community Foundation (BCF) helps individuals and corporations make a difference locally. We cultivate a culture of philanthropy in Brookline by making it easy for residents to give and to see their influence in the community. Whether it’s a modest, one-time gift or a multi-year legacy, we partner with donors to invest in areas that matter to them, pooling their gifts with others to multiply their impact. All gifts are professionally managed and monitored by a committee of investment professionals.
Together, BCF donors make a tangible difference in Brookline, providing timely support to neighbors in need and promoting innovative programs that make Brookline a stronger, more vibrant community.

The Brookline Community Foundation (BCF) exists to promote a strong, engaged,
and inclusive community. We envision a diverse and vibrant Brookline, where an
ethic of philanthropy, equity, volunteerism and civic engagement ensures that
everyone’s basic needs for social services, education and housing are met, the arts
flourish, and the environment thrives.
GIVE WHERE YOU LIVEYou can make a di¡erence in keeping Brookline strong and vital. The Brookline Community Foundation (BCF) relies on donations to o¡er grants to programs such as the Brookline Council on Aging, the Brookline Emergency Food Pantry, and Brookline Extended Day Advisory Council that are meeting crucial needs in our community. With your support, we can do more to make Brookline a great place to live.
You can be a part of our e¡orts by giving online at brooklinecommunity.org or by sending a donation to:
