    HOW TO ENTER:

    Submit this completed Entry Form, required Photograph Description, and your photo entry according to

    the following instructions. All entries are subject to North Berrien Photography Contest Official Rules.

    Photo entries must be submitted in print on 8 by 10 inch photo paper (horizontal or vertical) to beeligible. The photo entry should NOT be permanently mounted, laminated, or framed.

    Entries can be hand delivered to the North Berrien Historical Museum (Log Cabin Building at 300 Coloma

    Ave., on Red Arrow Highway across from Coloma High School) or mailed to:North Berrien Historical Society, P.O. Box 207, Coloma, MI 49038

    The deadline is Tuesday, August 21, 2012 to postmark submissions, or hand deliver to the museum by

    4:00pm that day. Winners will be notified by phone or e-mail by September 5.

    GUIDELINES: Photos must depict a location within North Berrien County this includes Coloma and Watervliet cities

    and the townships of Hagar, Bainbridge, Coloma and Watervliet. Photo submissions that do not meet thisrequirement will not be eligible. Please see attached Official Rules for full details.

    The North Berrien Photography Contest invites submissions of original photographsthat capture the distinctive character of our area for future generations. Photo Contest Winners

    will be exhibited at the North Berrien Historical Museum throughout the month of September 2012.Co-sponsored by the North Berrien Historical Society and the Coloma-Watervliet Area Chamber ofCommerce.

    Photography Contest

    OFFICIAL RULES

    WHAT PHOTO TO ENTER:

    The North Berrien Photography Contest seeks images that capture the unique character and culture of NorthBerrien County, Michigan. The photo should be a striking representation of an aspect of North Berrien

    including, but not limited to, architecture, landscapes, nature, public buildings and events, historic locations,

    etc. Photographs that do not depict a North Berrien location will not be eligible. For the purposes of this

    Contest, North Berrien is defined as the cities of Coloma and Watervliet plus the townships of Hagar,Bainbridge, Coloma, and Watervliet including all bodies of water.

    The photograph, in its entirety, must be a single work of original material taken by the Contest entrant. Byentering the Contest, entrant acknowledges and certifies that the submitted photograph is an original work

    created solely by the entrant, that the photograph does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights,

    right of privacy/ publicity, or intellectual property right of any person or entity, and that no other party has anyright, title, or claim to the photograph. Eligible photos must not involve the willful harassment of wildlife or

    damage to the environment by the photographer, or infringe on the rights of any other photographer or person.

    Digital Alterations: All photographs should accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appeared.

    Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization will be disqualified. Acceptable are

    adjustments to color, contrast, brightness, and sharpness, and cropping. Not acceptable are photo composites

    (combination of two or more photos); the addition, duplication, deletion, or moving of objects in the photo; orthe use of artistic digital filters and effects. Examples of artistic filters and effects are watercolor, neon glow,

    stained glass, and others which do not show the scene in its natural way.

    WHO CAN ENTER:

    The Contest is open to full time or part-time residents of Michigan. Contest participants will retain rights and

    ownership of their photo(s), but upon submission, grant the North Berrien Historical Society and the Coloma-Watervliet Area Chamber of Commerce permission to use the image(s) for displays and publications.

    HOW TO ENTER:

    Complete the Official Entry Form with all required information, including the Photograph Description

    attachment, and submit those papers with your photograph entry according to the following instructions.

    All photo entries must be size 8 by 10 inches and submitted in print on photo paper.

    All photo entries must NOT be permanently mounted, laminated, or framed in any way when submitted.

    Photo entries can be in either horizontal or vertical format.

    Individual participants can submit up to three photograph entries.

    Entries can be hand delivered to the North Berrien Historical Museum or mailed to: North Berrien

    Historical Society, P.O. Box 207, Coloma, MI 49038. The museum is located on Red Arrow Highwayacross from Coloma High School, and entries should be taken to the office in the Log Cabin Building.

    North Berrien Photography Contest may disqualify any entry that does not meet specified requirements.

    Submitted photographs are non-returnable.

    DEADLINE:The deadline to enter the Photo Contest is Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 4:00pm. Submissions must be

    handed in at the North Berrien Historical Museum by this time, or postmarked on or before August 21.

    JUDGING:Submitted eligible photographs will be judged on technical excellence, composition, and overall impact. Alldecisions by the judges will be final and binding. Winners and Honorable Mentions in each age category will

    be notified by e-mail or telephone by Wednesday, September 5.

    PRIZE:Winners and Honorable Mentions in each age category will appear in a Photography Contest Exhibit at the

    North Berrien Historical Museum from September 4-28, 2012. Winning photographs will be added to the

    permanent collection of the North Berrien Historical Society. Winning photographers will be awarded a localgift certificate courtesy of the Coloma-Watervliet Area Chamber of Commerce.

    YOUR RIGHTS:Your photo submissions help support the mission of the North Berrien Historical Society. Thank you for

    helping preserve our local history and culture through your photography. You will retain all rights and

    ownership to any photograph you submit. By submitting the photo(s), you grant the North Berrien HistoricalSociety a nonexclusive right in perpetuity, as it relates to history preservation and education efforts, to:

    Feature your image(s) on the North Berrien Historical Society website and in the Societys publications or

    presentations, such as newsletters, brochures, fundraising appeals, public service announcements, grantproposals, reports, awards, thank-you cards, displays, mailings, and invitations.

    Add the image(s) to the collection of the North Berrien Historical Museum in hard copy and digitizedformat so that your photos can be used to support our mission and be properly credited.

    Use the image(s) and your name in connection with the North Berrien Photography Contest.

    Use the image(s) and your name in publications by the Coloma-Watervliet Area Chamber of Commerce.

    As a condition of this permission, the North Berrien Historical Society and the Coloma-Watervliet Area

    Chamber of Commerce shall credit all images with the photographers full name.

    LEGAL CONDITIONS:By entering this Contest, you agree to these entry rules and the following legal conditions: participants warrant

    that his or her entry materials are original, do not infringe on any third partys rights, and that participant has

    obtained any necessary permissions from any third party if a third partys likeness or property appears in the

    photograph. The North Berrien Historical Society reserves the right to disqualify any entry if it finds in itssole discretion that any of the foregoing warranties are not true. Decisions of the North Berrien Historical

    Society shall be final and binding. By entering, participants release and hold harmless the North BerrienHistorical Society, its affiliated parties, staff, and members from any and all liability for any of the following:

    injuries, loss, claim, action, demand, or damage of any kind arising from or related to the Photography Contest,

    any prize won, any use of entry materials by the North Berrien Historical Society, the warranties made by

    participants, any misuse or malfunction of any prize awarded, participation in any Photo Contest-relatedactivity, or participation in the Photo Contest. The Contest is governed by the laws of the United States and is

    subject to applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Failure of any entrant to comply with any

    Official Rules may result in disqualification. If, for any reason, the Photo Contest is not capable of completionas planned, the North Berrien Historical Society reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate,

    modify, or suspend the Photo Contest. The North Berrien Historical Society is not responsible for lost,damaged, late, or misdirected photographs.
