The 2016 MGI was played this year with the most teams to ever participate. 64 teams played over 4 glorious days in mid July. The tournament started on a Wednesday with a practice round featuring all 3 formats to be used; Shamble, Pinehurst, and Best Ball. Paul D'Ambra & Lance Dombroski won the gross with a 64! Brian Ball & Rob Garrison won net with a 59.7!
In the evening of the first day players were treated to a superb meal and a putting derby where players had to weave their way through many obstacles over a nine hole course. Eric Pinckert bested the field covering the course in 19 strokes.
The players then played three days of competition with a derby after the second Day. Josh Jacobson & Mike Walton won the Derby with Mike Rowley & Spencer Rowley coming in 2nd, Dick Keenan and Fred Pope came in 3rd. Josh Jacobson and his partner Mike Walton played three steady days to also win overall gross in the field with a 208 total. Great job guys! Hal Billingsley and his partner Brent Benson shot three great rounds to win overall net posting a three day total of 195. Awesome playing. ALL SPORTS CAMP Our 3rd Sports camp for the year is August 2-5. This camp is a great chance for our juniors at the Club to be introduced to the fine instruction from our Club pros. All the juniors will participate in tennis, golf, fitness, and swim in a fun and safe environment. Any junior from 5-12yrs is welcome to attend the camp. Email Myki to register: [email protected] SLO JUNIOR SUMMER CLASSIC AUGUST 12-14: Our second USTA tournament of the year will start August 12. Juniors from all over California will come to compete at the Country Club. Many of our juniors will be playing, and all juniors are welcome to sign-up and compete. They will be competing in singles, doubles, and mixed. This will be a good chance to see how our local players do against the top So Cal players. Members please note that court availability will be extremely limited throughout the weekend. SEPTEMBER 24-25 CLUB CALCUTTA This was a great event last year. Eight teams consisting of 6 players of all levels competing against each other for 2 days. There will be a bidding party the Friday night before play starts. The Calcutta is limited to 48 players, so register with Bill before it’s full! TENNIS ADVICE Question: While playing in tournaments or league, I get very nervous and tight. This usually affects my game tremendously, and as hard as I try to control my nerves, nothing seems to work. What can I do to help calm myself down during a match? Answer: Rely on the rituals you develop in practice. For example, take a deep breath, bounce the ball twice, and then cock your racquet before serving. Do it every time that you serve. Be sure to slow down when you are feeling anxious. Most players tend to rush when they are nervous, so do the opposite. Try to breath out when you hit the ball. This exhale will relax your muscles. Players often hold their breath under pressure and this will prevent that from occurring. Mostly, rely on positive self-talk. Stay focused on the present-tense, with little concern over what has happened or what will happen. Instead, concentrate on what you need to do to win the very next point. This is easier written than done, but with practice you will become more comfortable. Good luck, and be assured that every player gets nervous out on the court.

BALL MACHINE USAGE: During prime court-usage hours (8:30-11:30a.m. and 3:00-5:00p.m. daily), no individual use of the ball machine is allowed except at the discretion of the Tennis Shop, (subject to open courts). If ball machine usage is approved during prime hours, it is for a 30-minute increment and the user will lose the court after that 30 minute increment if a singles or doubles group arrives during that time and all other courts are occupied. If no other groups show up for the court during that time, the player may use the ball machine for a 2nd 30 minute increment if desired.* *This only applies to individual use. If two players request the ball machine, they are subject to the regular court reservation policy as singles players.

WELLNESS LECTURE IN SEPTEMBER Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Lecture Tuesday, September 13th at 6pm Come find out about Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and how it may enhance your health. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is the inhalation of oxygen inside a hyperbaric chamber that is pressurized to greater than 1 atmosphere. Oxygen is vital to our life. Without it, our bodies cannot function. Physically, as a person ages, basic stress on the body produces a constant inflammatory response that eventually wears out the joints, muscles, vital organs, and even brain cells. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy’s anti-inflammatory properties help alleviate the inflammation that wears out the body. This type of therapy is one of the most natural and uses no drugs and may address various health issues without surgery. The basic principle of HBOT is to dissolve oxygen into the blood’s plasma, joint fluid, cerebral fluid, lymph fluid and other tissues throughout the body. This increase of oxygen helps the entire body function more efficiently and normally. Some of the benefits of hyperbaric oxygen include: increased energy, improved circulation, and accelerated healing from injury or surgery. HBOT may also calms the nervous system and improves memory. Clinical studies have shown successful results for helping with inflammation, Stroke, Chronic Fatigue, Lyme Disease, Autism, sports injuries, general anti-aging, and more. This lecture is presented by Silvana Bilicska, Founder of Obispo Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Clinic. The clinic can be reached at 805-440-9856 or get more information by visiting www.obispohyberbaric.com RUN THE COURSE ~ A FAMILY FUN RUN! Our 3rd annual Run/Walk the Course is coming up fast! Siblings and cousins, Marco & Hunter Zink came in 2nd and Tanner Auerbach & JJ Ughoc came in 3rd.
