Pastor’s Corner
My Dear Parishioners, This Sunday, we will begin our Annual Forty Hours Devotion. This solemn period of exposition of the Most Blessed Sacrament will last from Sun. (Oct. 14th) until Tues. (Oct. 16th). Each evening we will celebrate Evening Prayer with Benediction at 7:00 PM. We are blessed to have with us each night Fr. Keith Chylinski. Fr. Keith, a faculty member at St. Charles Seminary, was a parishioner here at OLA & a former choir member. He is a gifted speaker. I know we will be truly edified by his presence here over these three days. This year, our church will be left open continuously for adoration “around the clock”. We are still in need of hours to be covered for adoration. Please check the adoration sign-up sheets in the back of church for these times. I strongly encourage you & your families to take advantage of these three “special & spiritual days” in the life of our parish. I pray that they will be of great benefit for all who come to adore & for our entire parish as well. At the request of Archbishop Chaput, all parishes have been asked to pray the Prayer to St. Michael after all Masses. This prayer was composed by Pope Leo XIII in 1884. One day after celebrating Mass, Pope Leo XIII was found staring blankly. A moment later, he suddenly snapped back to the present & quickly shut himself into his private office. A half an hour later, with his attendants knocking to see if everything was okay, he emerged having composed the Prayer to St. Michael. In 1886, he mandated that it be prayed universally after Mass. While this prayer was later suppressed in 1966, it still remains a popular one in the devotional life of the Church. What did he see that inspired the prayer? In one account, he had a vision of demonic forces circling Rome. In another account, Leo actually heard a conversation between God & Satan, in which God allowed Satan to choose one century in which to do his worst work. And what cen-tury did the evil one choose? The 20th century. No doubt this powerful prayer, all the more, is needed today as we see what is happening in the life of our Church. May St. Michael come to our aid at this time as we invoke his powerful intercession! Love and prayers, Fr. Carey
