SRINAGAR, MAY 23:Chief Conservator ofForests, Kashmir FarooqGillani today conducted de-tailed tour of South Kash-mir forests to review theprotection scenario and in-teract with the officials ofthe department.
During the tour he visitedKuthar Range of AnantnagForest Division where theincident of assault on For-est Officials had taken placeon May 22 and enquiredabout the health conditionsof the officials who had suf-fered injuries in the attack.
Similarly in Shopian For-est Division, there had beenan attack on a Forest officialposted as Block ForesterMathwani Block few daysback.
The CCF Kashmir vehe-mently condemned such at-tacks on forest officials andwarned that action underlaw will be taken on such at-tackers.
Further there had beenreports of some damages toforests during the currentlockdown period and as-sault on forest officials bythe timber smugglers.
In order to monitor themeasures taken to curbsuch activities, a detailed re-view meeting was held withthe Officers at KhanabalAnantnag.
The officers present in themeeting were advised tofurther gear up the activitiesrelated to forest protectionand timber smugglers be-sides other elements whoare indulging in the forestdamages were stronglywarned that strict action aswarranted under law will betaken against such ele-ments. The Chief Conserva-tor of Forests Kashmir said
that no anti social elementwill be allowed to takerefuge of pandemic by caus-ing damages to forests anddespite the hard times beingfaced by the Forest officials,the employees on the wholeare delivering their best toprotect the forest wealth.
He however sent strictmessage that in case of anylaxity or otherwise is ob-served on the part of anyforest official, the depart-ment will not hesitate toproceed against such offi-cial.
The CCF Kashmir advisedthe staff to intensify the pa-
trolling in the forest areasparticularly vulnerable tothe activities of timbersmugglers. The staff wasalso advised to strictly ad-here to the guidelines issuedby the government fromtime to time in the wake ofCOVID -19 while perform-ing their duties in the field.
The Chief Conservator ofForests was accompaniedby Tawheed Ahmad Deva,Conservator of ForestsKashmir South Circle, Divi-sional Forest Officers andDeputy Directors of ForestProtection Force of the cir-cle.

3300 JK residents evac-uated from Maharashtra
Around 3300 J&K resi-dents, including 1200 stu-dents who were strandedin various parts of Maha-rashtra have been sentback to their homes byfour Shramik SpecialTrains during the past 10days. This is the highestnumber of Shramik Spe-cial Trains deployed in anysingle state for the evacu-ation of J&K residentsstranded there.
Around 600 strandedpersons from J&K includ-ing 200 students, left forUdhampur Railway Sta-tion (J&K) from BandraTerminus, Mumbai this
evening in the 4th and lastSpecial Shramik Train.The train carried the J&Kresidents, who weremostly stranded in two keydistricts of Mumbai Cityand Mumbai Suburban.These stranded personsincluded patients, traders,handicraft vendors,labourers and employeesfrom banks, private sectorand the government.There are also residentsfrom UT of Ladakh on thistrain who were stranded in
Mumbai and its adjoiningareas.
Around 30 CA patientsfrom J&K and their atten-dants were stranded inMumbai since the coun-try-wide lockdown was an-nounced by the Govern-ment in the last week ofMarch this year. Almost allof them have been evacu-ated except a couple ofsuch patients who arestaying back for treatment.
Pertinently, around 700J&K residents, including
100 students, left for Ud-hampur from Thane Rail-way Station in Navi Mum-bai by Special ShramikTrain on 22 May. The traincarried J&K residents whowere stranded in NaviMumbai, Raigad and otheradjoining districts of Ma-harashtra.
Earlier, around 1000J&K residents, including500 students were evacu-ated from Pune by SpecialShramik Train on 19 May2020 while another 1000residents, including 400students, were evacuatedby Special Shramik Trainfrom Nagpur on 14th May2020.
The total number of J&Kresidents evacuated tilldate from Maharashtrahas touched 3300, includ-ing 1200 students.

sion stressed on adheringto social distancing normsand wearing of face masksto avoid contraction ofvirus among workers. Healso directed the concernedthat the SOPs with regardto COVID-19 are followedin letter and spirit in allworks that shall be exe-cuted now on.
The Advisor later tookdetailed review of the func-tioning of COVID Care cen-tre (400 bedded) at JNVHatbura, Ganderbal andinspected availability of lo-
gistics and other allied fa-cilities being put in placefor inmates.
During the visit, the Ad-visor took round of the cen-ter and inspected the facili-ties being put in placeincluding logistics, electric-ity, sanitation and avail-ability of personal hygienegears, bedding, health carefacilities and other relatedarrangements.
While reviewing the facil-ities being put in place, heexhorted upon the con-cerned to ensure that all thefacilities are being providedas per SOPs laid down forCOVID Care Centre.

SRINAGAR, MAY 23: WhileSocial Welfare Department is man-dated to provide help both in cashand in kind to the underprivilegedsections of the society, the depart-ment has been working in a missionmode during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. The department is ensuringthat benefits percolate to the desti-tute, poor, old aged and other so-cially & economically backward anddeserving beneficiaries under itsvarious schemes.
While giving a detailed account ofworks being conducted by the de-partment during the present situa-tion, the Director General SocialWelfare Department Kashmir,Rukhsana Gani said that the mainaim of the department is to extendhelping hand to various categoriesof beneficiaries and for this they pri-marily have two schemes namelyPension and Scholarship schemes.
‘’Since people are facing financialdifficulties in this lockdown period
due to COVID-19, the departmenthas given an advance pension of twomonths to 3, 20,000 beneficiariesunder Integrated Social SecurityScheme (ISSS) scheme in Kashmirdivision,” she said.
Giving details DG Social Welfaresaid that government wanted tocover more and more people for re-lief so that no one among deservingis left to fend for themselves in ab-sence of any income earning oppor-tunity and for this, “An additionalsanction for 1, 70,000 beneficiarieswas made under ISSS scheme inApril, of which 85,000 are fromKashmir Division and subsequentlypension for the month of April wasalso released to them .Overall 8 lakhbeneficiaries in the UT of J&K haveso far received benefits under theISSS scheme”.
Under National Social AssistanceProgram (NSAP), a centrally spon-sored scheme, a total of 1, 50,000persons have been provided bene-
fits in terms of pension which is di-rectly credited into their account.
While elaborating on other initia-tives, DG Social Welfare said thatunder Prime Minister GareebKalyan Yojana (PMGKY), assis-tance of Rupees five hundred eachhas been provided to the NSAPbeneficiaries and the second instal-ment of Rs 500 per person, which isover and above their regular pen-sion, has also been sanctioned andwill be released to them shortly.
“Despite lock down the benefitsof scholarships is being extended tochildren of poor, other backwardcategories, minorities, economicallybackward classes, manual scav-engers, sweepers which have seen250 percent increase in comparisonto last year with 8 lakh such chil-dren covered in UT of J&K and 5.5lakh in Kashmir alone, which in itselfis a bigger achievement”” sheadded. DG Social Welfare alsolauded the efforts of other sister
concerns of the department andsaid that they are working shoulderto shoulder with Social Welfare de-partment in mitigating the suffer-ings of the needy. “Our sister con-cerns like ICPS are also doing greatjob and under this scheme our Dis-trict Social Welfare Officers whoalso work as Child Protection Offi-cers have obtained a grant of 2 lakhrupees so that children living in in-stitutional care whether in govern-ment run or other orphanages,NGOs etc are provided with masks,sanitizers and hand wash items sothat they take adequate precautionsto save themselves from COVID-19disease,” she added.
The DG informed that the gov-ernment has also constituted acommittee which after every weektakes inspection of care- institu-tions to check if all the students arehealthy and that they are properlytaken care of and provided healthynutrition.

BUDGAM, MAY 23: District Social Welfare OfficeBudgam today conducted mask distribution programmeto prevent spread of Corona Virus disease.
The initiative was launched at JK Bank Main OfficeBudgam and Tehsil Social Welfare Office Budgam.
District Social Welfare Officer Budgam, Dr. Farhana As-gar, said that around 1200 masks were distributed amongcustomers visiting JK Bank and other public offices.
She further added that the department has so far receivedan amount of Rs. 1.06 crore from Government of India andthis financial assistance is released among the beneficia-ries registered with the department.
During mask distribution she advised on people to main-tain social distance, frequently wash hands and strictly fol-low guidelines issued by Health Department.
It is pertinent to mention here that these masks were spe-cially made by Craft assistants and Craft teachers of socialwelfare department Budgam.

They said that af-ter Kashmiri Pandit migration in the early 1990s, it was an-other blow to their dignity as they were denied property,education and other similar rights in absence of a valid PRC.
The delegation discussed a host of issues with the FirstLady and shared their emotional stories about the turbu-lent period faced by their community during the migrationand the struggle they have endured to sustain their fami-lies and making their careers. They termed the opportunityas one of giving voice to the voiceless and exuded confi-dence that their concerns and issues would be taken careof with utmost importance.
The First Lady gave the members a patient hearing andsaid that the era of disparity & denial has ended with theabrogation of Article 370 and a new dawn of equality, oppor-tunity and development for all has been ushered in J&K.

Smita releases financial assistance to non-pensioner Widows from Armed Forces
JAMMU, MAY 23: Dr. Smita Murmu, First Lady of theUnion Territory of Jammu and Kashmir today released fi-nancial assistance to Non-pensioner Widows, which hasbeen sponsored by some NGOs and concerned citizens. Acheque of Rs 1 lakh was released by the First Lady, as finan-cial aid for two months, for 50 Non-pensioners widows.
To help widows of Non-pensioners Ex-servicemen, Pres-ident of Home for Aged and Infirm, Sh. ID Soni, had pro-posed a help of Rs 1000/- per month for 50 Non-pensioners’widows. In addition, as one-time financial help to Non pen-sioners widows with little or no social support, Sh. VijayBhagotra donated a sum of Rs 1.76 lakh from his person-nel saving, to provide financial help of Rs 11,000 each to 16beneficiary widows.
Dr. Smita Murmu observed that such notable contribu-tions coming from NGOs and individuals will set a fine ex-ample for our citizens to identify and help the needy.
