4th  Annual  Korean  War  Armistice  Day  Commemoration  &  Peace  Vigil

National  Korean  War  Veterans  Memorial Washington,  DC

Sunday,  July  24,  2011  6:25pm-‐8:00pm

Candlelight  Vigil  will  take  place  exactly  at  7:27pm  –  RAIN  or  SHINE  (Candles  and  light  refreshments  will  be  provided.  Park  on  Constitution  Avenue.)

For  the  fourth  year,   the  Armistice  Day  event   is   taking  place   in  order  to  commemorate  the   ceasefire   treaty   signed   on   July   27,   1953,   in   hopes   to   promote   remembrance,  recognition,  and  reconciliation  of  the  Korean  War  that  has  yet  to  end  since  its  outbreak  on  June  25,  1950.      The   Korean   War   Veterans   Recognition   Act,   enacted   on   July   27,   2009,   honors   our  nation’s   Korean   War   veterans   as   well   as   the   tens   of   thousands   of   families,   both  Americans   and   Koreans,  who   suffered   through  one  of   history’s   bloodiest   conflict   that  involved  a  total  of  26  nations  from  1950-‐1953.    Sandwiched  between  the  World  War  II  and  the  Vietnam  War,  the  Korean  War  is  often  overlooked   in   the   public   consciousness   and   often   referenced   as   the   ‘Forgotten  War’.    Today,   few   people   understand   that   the   lingering   effects   of   the   Korean  War   and   the  resulting  stalemate  continue  to  impact  our  world  today.    Please   join   us   to   commemorate   and   learn   about   the   National   Korean   War   Veterans  Armistice   Day;   to   visit   the   National   Korean   War   Veterans   Memorial   and   meet   with  Korean   War   veterans   who   will   be   traveling   from   across   the   country   to   mark   the  occasion.
