REFLECTION
Solomon focuses on his ability to serve others
and thus ask for wisdom. He is generally
known as a wise and good leader. (1st Rdg.)
However, his wealth did catch hold of him, and
led to his making
arrangements for
pagan worship in
Israel in order to
appease the de-
sires of his many
wives. Sin has a
way of distracting
us from our pri-
mary purpose.
Let us avoid this
trap in our lives. Paul affirms that
God will use
whatever circum-
stances are available to bring good to our lives.
Thus, even when we are in the midst of great
trials, we should cling to this promise and be-
lieve that somehow God will bring good out of
them.(2nd Rdg.) The good may not become
immediately evident, so we have to trust that it
will come eventually. Or maybe we will not
realize it until we have received our heavenly
reward.

...relationship with God. We should treasure it
as we value nothing else and do all that we
can to develop and strengthen it (Gospel: The
Kingdom of Heaven). There will be cost in-
volved in sustaining this relationship as it will
mean giving priority to the things of heaven
over those of the world. This may not please
our friends all the time as we may be unavail-
able to them in order to be available to Jesus.
Let us stand firm on the truth that 'God is our
number one priority.
Question to reflect on: Is there anything more
important than our relationship with God?(Source: Companion - A Catholic Scriptural Diary)

CELEBRATING THE GIFT OF SUMMER 2017 BLD-TORONTO COMMUNITY PICNIC
SATURDAY, JULY 29/17
OPENING PRAISE & WORSHIP AT 10:00AM
MARY LAKE SHRINE PARK,
13760 KEELE ST, KING CITY ON
Living Water– July 28, 2017 3
I t’s the end of July. The summer months
are now upon us. And for every one in
BLD who love the outdoors, exciting
times are here -– that means barbecues
in flowered backyards, fishing in pristine On-
tario lakes, camping in wild untamed forests,
and quiet walks under clear summer skies.
For most of us, we look forward to the high
points of our BLD summers --- the now famil-
iar and obligatory weekend in Cobourg with
the Argoso’s and Locquiao’s and the commu-
nity picnic at Mary Lake Shrine Park, where
everyone gets to unwind, pray, eat lechon,
and have a good old-fashioned raucous fun,
all in one lush set-
ting.
That’s truly excit-
ing , but when
gearing up for these
summer adven-
tures, perhaps it’s
also a good idea to
step back for a mo-
ment and reflect on
the bigger picture.
Because more than
the thrill and the
adventure of the
outdoors, the sea-
son of summer
should also bring
with it an apprecia-
tion and respect for the sacredness of God’s
marvelous creation. That is the core message
of Pope Francis in his 2nd encyclical Laudato
Si or Praise be to You – On Care For Our
Common Home: He expressed the hope that
our sense of oneness as children of God will
always translate to a sense of communion
with all of creation. Following Pope Francis’ plea, let’s not forget
to give praise to God for the gift of life and
creation – for the fish in the waters, the birds
in flight, the flowers in bloom and the trees
that stretch to the heavens. And as we start
packing for our summer getaways, let us re-
commit ourselves to respecting and caring for
our common home — the earth we live in….
for she is the embodiment of God’s immeasur-
able love. So here’s to summer, to mother Earth and to
our God of all creation! Praise be to You!
