CIVIC PRESIDENT’S REPORTBy Gale Kaczmarek
This is a great time of year where the warmth and sun shines in many more states across the map. Many of our residents leave Harbor Cove for awhile and go back North to visit family and friends, a few of us take an extended vacation and the rest of us stay here and enjoy a relaxed summer. Whatever you choose to do this summer, Harbor Cove will be here waiting for you when you are ready to return. There is no need to miss out on the Harbor Cove Bulletin while you are away because the bulletin is available online. In your address bar type in: https://4communitymedia.com, click on newsletters, choose Harbor Cove and then simply click on the bulletin to read it. You can even go back to earlier bulletins to review or catch up on what you may have missed. Another way to stay connected is to join the Harbor Cove North Port Fl. Residents Group on Facebook. Our Facebook page currently has 549 members. Are you one of them? If not simply request to join and you will be connected with your Harbor Cove family who love to share beautiful pictures, various events, items for sale, important messages and more. If you are part of the 565 Civic Bulk Cable Subscribers your payment of $300 is due by June 1st to avoid a late fee. This includes basic channels and 1 box. If you have additional services and equipment from Frontier you can call and ask about putting them on vacation.I can’t finish this article without making mention of Joyce Cattelane who will be leaving Harbor Cove in July to be with her family in Alabama. She was very active in our Harbor Cove Community and added a sparkle and a smile to everything she touched. Joyce was on the ROC Board, she chaired or took part in many special activities and committees, took many photographs to mark events, as well as being the founder and leader of the Harbor Cove Writer’s Group. This past season Joyce was our hostess forCoffee Hour on Saturday morning and did a wonderful job! She added her special touch to it as she always did. Harbor Cove won’t be the same without Joyce Cattelane’s smiling face; she will certainly be missed by all who were lucky enough to get to know her. I hope she will come back and visit us often. I hope you all have a joyous June!

I was greeted this first week here by rain every single day. While Florida is begging for rain, we are hoping it will stop soon, So I haven’t made it to the golf course yet, I am hoping next week will be better. We will probably have to wade in the mud. By the time you read this, all the snowbirds will have left and the remaining are holding the park down. Have a great summer. I am working on discontinuing my 941 number, so please continue to contact me at 513 831-5403 or at [email protected]. I have voice mail on the 513 number, so please don’t hesitate to leave me a message. Don’t take it for granted that someone else has contacted me. I do get Diane’s emails, but I depend on the rest of you to let me know if someone is ill or has passed away.
WITH DEEP APPRECIATIONNo words can express my appreciation for the love and support you have shown after the passing of my husband Dan Cox. It has been a great comfort to receive so many healing words from this community. You became our family over five years ago and have blessed us in so many ways.
I want to thank everyone for the cards, flowers, the food, the hugs and support and many phone calls that I have received through the past few weeks.Dan was always saying that he was “peachy”, but he also said to me that he was “Too blessed to be stressed”Thanks, Sharon Cox
HC BOOK CLUBBy Sue Nanz 587-1826
We discussed the book, “The Shadow of the Wind,” by Carlos Ruiz Zafon for our May meeting. Although not everyone thought it was one of our better reads, we had a good discussion about it. I for one would recommend it, but there aren’t too many books I don’t like. For June, we will be reading “The Black Box” by Michael Connelly. It is one in a series about Detective Harry Bosch who seems to take all his cases to heart. In this one, he is faced with Anneke Jespersen who was killed execution style on the night that Los Angeles burned in riots. Twenty years later, the gun that killed the young woman has shown up as being the weapon in several recent crimes. Will Harry find “the black box” which is the one piece of evidence that will pull the case together and get justice? If you’d like to read the book and have a comment or two, email me at [email protected] and I will be glad to read the reviews from you.We also decided that we will no longer meet after our June meeting until September. Watch for my column in the September newsletter for the book we will be discussing in October.

HOME OF THE MONTHBY Tina Olsson
Congratulations to Cathy Scott, at 212 Trailorama, who is the winner of Home of the Month for June. Cathy bought a vacant lot and had a new home installed on it. She had the home designed for her and was involved with it from blueprints to completion. She moved in last September. Cathy hails from Rhode Island, but is thrilled to now be part of Harbor Cove.Obviously, we are thrilled to have her.

POWER SURGEBy Bonnie Erfourth for the Writers Group
We were sitting there watching the Packers. It was an exciting game with them living up to my name for them; THE HEART ATTACK PACK. Suddenly there was a click and everything went off. A power surge. “No problem,” I said. “It will be back on in a minute.” Well, the lights came back on, the clocks started, everything seemed to be coming back on, but no TV, that meant NO PACKERS! I tried my computer for something to do. No computer. I looked at the phones; they all read, “no service.”What to do? Lyle immediately went about resetting the wireless control, including unplugging it, waiting the recommended ten minutes. Nothing. He tried several things, several times. Nothing. So tackle the phone. We unplugged it and plugged it back in again. Nothing. Now what? It was Thanksgiving weekend and the kids usually call. We'd better let them know that we're all right. Do we go to the neighbors? No, we have cell phones. I try mine and decide to text because they probably weren't home and I have just learned how to do that. Okay. Now we wait. How to fill the time until things come back on? Good thing we like to read. Lyle always has a book and luckily, I had started one. So passed the night. The next day, Lyle tried the same things again. The same results. In talking to neighbors, they had the surge also, but their electricity and wifi came back on in a short period of time. And yes, the Packers did play an exciting game and won.Time to call Frontier. Oops. No phone, Oh, the cell phone. I always have to think twice to remember I have one. We got the special number, tried everything they suggested over the phone; talked to several technicians. Finally it was decided that they
Easter Sunrise ServiceBy Laurie Frederick
“This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad”. And what a glorious day He provided us with for Easter Sunday!Since Easter was late this year, I couldn’t get this article in the May bulletin. But, as they say, it’s never too late to say thank you! For my first time in coordinating the service, it was easy with all the help I received! THANK YOU Allen Humes…. What a great job you did in your selection of readings and the message you delivered! (In case you don’t know, Allen and Roz gave up a free cruise on Holland America because he had committed to Harbor Cove for Easter. What dedication … Can’t thank you enough!) THANK YOU Phil and Irene White, Neil and Elaine Mays, Dick and Nicole Eddy, Carol Walters and Joy Barnhill. THANK YOU to anyone else who pitched in and helped and my apologies for not recognizing you here. THANK YOU to all who attended.

would have to come to the house; IN THREE DAYS! THREE DAYS! NO PHONE! NO COMPUTER! AND NO TV!! Actually, we did have a phone, but friends and relatives knew we did not usually have them turned on, so no communication from the outside coming in. No computer. Lyle missed playing his games, but read. I not only missed playing games, I could not send or receive e-mail or Facebook. That was hard. But TV was missed the most. It was our main source of news and entertainment. Reading has its limits. The days were fine, we had our routine and this gave us a new subject to talk to friends and neighbors about. But evenings; no news (the worst), no NCIS and other programs. No computer games to compensate. We had games to play, never thought of that until now. We could play cards, never thought of that either. Are we in a rut or what! No thinking outside the box. Finally the three days were up and the technician came. He found the surge had burned out our battery. So he replaced that and reset everything. With a sigh of relief we were back to normal. We even got a second box so we can watch a different program on our kitchen TV. We also learned that several other people who were near the main distribution box had the same problem. Evidently the surge lessened as it traveled. Now I need to make a list of things we can do it this happens again.
MEET THE NEIGHORSBy Nancy Clark for the Writers Group
Malcolm (Mac) Dunnett and Diane Lovely bought their home in Harbor Cove in May 2015. They live at 709 Riverview Circle and are seasonal residents. They moved here from New Brunswick, Canada. They retired in 2011. Diane was a manager of Customer Services at the Bank of Nova Scotia. Mac was general manager of a Honda auto dealership and was recognized by Honda Canada in McLeans Magazine as managing one of Honda’s top car dealerships. Mac has a daughter, 44, and two granddaughters, 20 and 23. Diane has two sons, 29 and 33. They were raised in New Brunswick and each raised their children in New Brunswick also. When I inquired about how they ended up in Harbor
Cove, they informed me that they had a Florida map and literally put a finger on Englewood. So that is where their search began. Harbor Cove was exactly what they were looking for as there were many golf courses in the area.Mac and Diane are avid golfers and have met other golfers in the area. There are 12 people in their golfing group, and they go to restaurants and party together. They golf here and in New Brunswick. Their other hobbies are biking, reading and boating. Mac played hockey until a couple of years ago. I also found them doing a crossword puzzle on their lanai.Mac and Diane are great people and wonderful neighbors. I can attest to that as they live across the street from me.
