Construction is on schedule for an industry "first" in early fall. That's when the first commercial plant to produce ethylene-derived normal alpha olefins will be on stream. The site: the Gulf complex at Cedar Bayou, Texas.

Alpha olefins, from butene-1 through eicosene-1, will be pro­duced with fractions as high as C22-C28. Because the starting point is high-purity ethylene, Gulf ole­fins will be of exceptionally high quality. This means products free of naphthenes, acetylenes, dienes
