18.17 Salient Observations:
18.17.1 Engine Performance:
i) The backup torque of engine is 9.17 %, under natural ambient
condition.
ii) The maximum power was observed as 10.7 & 10.4 kW under natural
& high ambient condition respectively.
iii) The specific fuel consumption corresponding to maximum and rated
power was recorded as 222 g/kWh against the declared value of
270 g/kWh.
iii) The maximum torque was recorded as 56.25 Nm against declared
value of 56.0 Nm under natural ambient condition.
18.17.2 Rotary shaft performance:
i) The maximum and rated rotary shaft power was measured as 9.7 kW.
ii) The specific fuel consumption corresponding to power at rated engine
speed was measured as 251 g/kWh against the declared value of
300 g/kWh.
iii) The maximum equivalent rotary shaft torque was observed as
449.9 Nm against the declared value of 445 Nm.
18.17.3 Mechanical Vibration:
The amplitude of mechanical vibration on all controls / measuring
points of the power tiller exceeded the limit of 100 micron. The
mechanical vibration is directly concerned with Operator‟s Health, Safety and Comfort; apart from the useful life of the machine‟s components. In view of the above, this deserves to be given top
priority for corrective action.
18.17.4 Noise measurement:
Max. Noise at operator‟s ear level and by stander‟s position was observed as 96 dB(A) and 79 dB(A) respectively.
18.17.5 Haulage test
18.17.5.1 The power tiller was recommended for haulage test with a trailer of
gross mass of 1.5 tonne.
18.17.5.2 Distance traveled per litre was observed 11.52 to 11.60 km.
18.17.5.3 Specific fuel consumption was observed 57.47 to 57.87 cc/km/ton.
18.17.6 Wetland cultivation (Puddling test) :
18.17.6.1 Puddling test was conducted with cage wheels and with hatchet blade.

18.17.6.2 The maneuverability of power tiller during puddling test was found
satisfactory.
18.17.6.3 On partial dismantling of the power tiller and inspection of the oil
lubricants from engine sump, clutch assembly, gear box, chain case,
and rotary shaft housing, no entry of mud and/water was observed.
18.17.7 Rotary blades:
i) The hourly rate of wear of blades for dry land and wet land (hatchet
blade) operations was observed as 0.36 to 0.72 percent and 0.14 to
0.37 percent respectively.
ii) Only Manganese content of hatchet blade are not conforming the
limits as specified in relevant test code IS 6690:1981 (reaffirmed
2012) and therefore it should be looked into for corrective action.
iii) The dimensions of the blades do not conform, in full, to IS
6690:1981.
iv) The hardness at shank & edge portions of hatchet blades conforms
the requirement of IS 6690:1981 (reaffirmed 2012).
18.17.8 As per IS 12239 (Part 3) : 1988, “maximum safe speed” with trailer is required to be specified by the manufacturer. Necessary action may
be taken in this regard.
18.17.9 As per IS 12239 (Part 3) : 1988, balancing mass to be added to
achieve correct weight balance of the power tiller with various
attachments should be recommended by the manufacturer in the
operator manual. This may be examined for compliance.
18.17.10 Provision of spark arresting device may be considered for
incorporation in the exhaust system.
18.17.11 Provided metallic plate should be as per IS 10273:1987.
18.17.12 It is recommended that the Power Tiller should bear the identification
number viz. engine No., Chassis No. including month and year of
manufacture embossed or etched or punched on it. Not only this, the
applicant is advised to indicate/intimate the testing agency regarding
the place where the numbers is embossed or etched or punched
including the code for the year and month of production in respect of
that particular model.
18.17.13 It is recommended that the tyre should have the “Marking” as per
clause 8 of IS 13154:1991.
18.17.14 It is recommended that only those bulbs should provided on head
lamp of Power Tiller which are duly tested as per AIS 034. Further,
it is also recommended to fit only those “Head Lamp Assembly” on the Power Tiller which are duly tested in accordance with AIS 062.

19.3 18.17.3 The same suggestion is noted and we would incorporate some
corrective action in future with respect to reduce the
vibration.
19.4 18.17.4 The company would work on reducing the noise level at
operator‟s ear level. 19.5 18.17.7 The points are noted and the company would work on the
same to conform the dimensions and chemical composition.
19.6 18.17.8 We will take corrective actions.
19.7 18.17.9 We will incorporate the same as per IS 12239.
19.8 18.17.10 The suggestion is noted & the company would work to
incorporate device in exhaust system.
19.9 18.17.11 Would be implemented.
19.10 18.17.12 Necessary rectifications will be made regarding the
identification number plate.
19.11 18.17.13 Your suggestion is noted and will be rectified.
19.12 18.17.14 Would be implemented.
19.13 18.17.15 Your suggestion is noted and we will do the same.
