EDUCATIONAL BEGINNINGS
Stuart MacFarlane is an Australian native and began his education in the early 1970s when he left to study at the Yoga-Vedanta Forest University in Rishikesh, India. He studied philosophy and Advaita Vedanta, which is a traditional Indian path to spiritual realization.
RETURN TO AUSTRALIA
Upon completing school in India and returning to Australia, he undertook formal training with Ken Mellor in Transactional Analysis and Gestalt therapy from 1981 to 1984. At the same time, from 1983 to 1984, MacFarlane began bereavement counselling training at the Bereavement Care Centre.
PRIVATE PRACTICE
MacFarlane became a bereavement counselor and subsequently a psychotherapist in 1984 when he began working in private practice. Additionally, he founded the Blue Mountains Bereavement Support Group, which still operates today as The Blue Mountains Palliative Support Service.
He also attended the University of Western Sydney for 2 years part time and received a Graduate Diploma in Social communication in 1985.
TRAINING WITH ELISABETH KUBLER-ROSS
MacFarlane undertook training from Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, the Swiss-American psychiatrist that developed the five stages of grief theory. MacFarlane eventually became the head of her organization in Australia and work directly with her and her team to manage workshop tours throughout New Zealand and Australia.
MEETING GREGG M. FURTH
While MacFarlane worked with Kubler-Ross, he was introduced to Gregg M. Furth, an internationally recognized Jungian Analyst. This is where his interest in analytical psychology took off and eventually led him to move to London, England.
LONDON RELOCATION
MacFarlane worked in private practice in Australia until 1998 when he decided to move to London, England to study analytical psychology at The Guild of Analytical Psychology (GAP). While studying at GAP, MacFarlane began working in private practice again in 2001 applying both analytical analysis and psychotherapy treatment to patients.
DIPLOMA OF ANALYTICAL PSYCHOLOGY
He graduated with a Diploma of Analytical Psychology from GAP in 2005 and started to become very involved in the organization side of GAP. He began facilitating and training GAP students through various workshops until he resigned in 2014.
TODAY
Stuart MacFarlane has become a well-respected therapist and currently resides in London where he continues to explore the depths of analytical psychology.
