SYNTAGMAPLAKA KOLONAKI
Plaka is without a doubt one of the most picturesque neighbourhoods in Athens, with its narrow streets, lovely neoclassical buildings, small cafes, traditional tavernas, souvenir shops and ancient ruins in almost every corner. Plaka is in the heart of the centre of Athens, just under the Acropolis hill, yet has a totally different air than the rest of the city centre, creating a feeling of nostalgia of the old Athens. Even though it is very commercial and popular with tourists, it is the ideal place to enjoy a nice walk, as there are plenty of things to do and see, while strolling around its small pedestrian streets. It is the area that developed around the ancient Agora of Athens and is the oldest district in Athens, as it has been continuously inhabited for around 3,000 years. Nowadays, Plaka is more of a “old time classic” neighbourhood filled with life all day and night long.
Kolonaki is a wealthy and upmarket district in central Athens, Greece. It is located on the southern slopes of Lycabettus hill. It is one of the capital's leading shopping areas as it includes a number of high-end boutiques from young adult to casual fashion to prestigious haute couture by Greek and international designers. One of its main shopping streets, Voukourestiou Street, is now known for its jewelry.. A walk across the street from Vasilissis Sofias Avenue are the Byzantine Museum, and the War Museum of Athens. There is a plethora of available options for nightlife, including bars, ouzeries, and tavernas. Outdoor seating on pedestrian walks is typical, creating a lively atmosphere at night. The main Kolonaki Square is surrounded by cafes and restaurants.
Syntagma is one of the largest squares in Greece and the central point of reference for Athens' city centre. Syntagma (literally translated to “the Constitution”) is the Home of the Hellenic Parliament. The square is renowned for the variety of venues which attracts a huge amount of visitors (local and tourists) all year round. Busy and full of life all day and night long, this district extends towards Monastiraki and it includes exceptional residences and hotels, the famous shopping street Ermou, one of the most pedestrian visited shopping streets in the world, traditional and fine dining restaurants and cosy or famous branded cafes.
