Board/Superintendent Comments:
José Luis Pérez ~ “Earlier in the meeting we honored some young students that
wrote about Martin Luther King and I could not but wonder, all those little
children were Latinos. It makes me proud to the fact that Dr. Martin Luther King
meant so much to them to write about it. That was a life worth living, that of Dr.
King and it brings a lot of pride into children that have no connection, no
knowledge of the work that he did on a current basis. I was very very pleased.
Thank you very much.”
Carolyn M. Wilson ~ Mrs. Wilson welcomed everyone back and wished them a
Happy New Year. Mrs. Wilson thanked Dr. Salazar for conducting the Strategic
Planning Sessions and although she did not attend the first session she has heard
rave reviews about the session. Mrs. Wilson requested that staff agendize an
item related to healthcare benefits for management on the next Board Meeting
agenda and stated that she spoke with Leigh Hawkinson, President of AEA,
about the possibility of realigning with the teachers’ Association. Mrs. Wilson
thanked Herb and Pamela for quickly helping to supply food to Riverside and
Corona. Councilman Perry will be working with Instructional Support Services
in February to inform students, parents and staff about domestic and teen
violence. Mrs. Wilson thanked Ginger and Charles for working with Councilman
Perry on this awareness project.
Greg Kraft ~ Mr. Kraft stated that he called the Riverside County Office of
Education’s (RCOE) Financial Department to speak about the concerns listed in
their letter of response related to Alvord’s 2013-2014 First Interim Financial
Report. Mr. Kraft stated that declining enrollment continues to concern him. Mr.
Kraft requested that a presentation be agendized on February 6th to address the
concerns highlighted in RCOE’s letter. Mr. Kraft also requested an item be
agendized related to conferences, another area of concern, addressing conference
procedures; arranging conferences; paperwork required; approvals required and
consequences for not following procedures. Mr. Kraft also requested an item on
February 6th to discuss the possibility of moving the February 20th Board
Meeting.
