OUR MISSION: To enable students to achieve academic, career, personal, and social success!
Jobs for Delaware Graduates (JDG) was designed in 1978 by five working groups inDelaware, drawn from business, education, workforce, labor union, and communityleadership. The purpose of the organization was to simultaneously address Delaware'sunemployment and dropout rates by preparing high school seniors with significantbarriers to transition from school to work. Four decades later, more than 70,000 youngpeople have participated in JDG programs throughout the state, and more than 250employers rely on Jobs for Delaware Graduates for producing enthusiastic, well-prepared, effective employees.

The past year has truly been a fulfilling and successful time for Jobs for DelawareGraduates, Inc. We achieved historic milestones, developed new partnerships, andexpanded the reach of our academic and training programs. Every day I see firsthandhow dedicated, skilled, and caring JDG team members—including employees,volunteers, student leaders, and others—work toward accomplishing our collectivegoals, and I am continuously astounded by our results, accomplishments, andoutcomes. During this year, the JDG team worked with over 4,200 students and helped break thecycle of poverty and unemployment by providing much-needed education andworkforce-preparation services to some of Delaware’s most at-risk middle- and high-school students. Our newly launched Creating Opportunities through Real Experiences(CORE) program provides students with job-related experiential learning opportunitiesthrough partnerships with a growing list of organizations in culinary arts, customerservice, human resources, health care, government, and other industries. As a result,we’re producing qualified, experienced, and marketable graduates who have higherchances for success in the working world. We are forever grateful to those who support our students with their time, talent, andtreasure. JDG will continue to provide nationally recognized services to Delawarestudents while working to create better opportunities and pathways for Delawaregraduates. Sincerely,

Jobs for Delaware Graduates (JDG) is a school-to-work transitional program, designed to prepareyouth for academic, career, personal, and social success. Our program helps students,grades 7-12, to successfully graduate high school and obtain post-secondary education, training,and/or employment. JDG is an approved Delaware Department of Education Career Pathway,serving more than 4,000 youth each year.
High School ProgramStudents who participate in JDG gain first-hand exposure to emerging career fields, leadershipopportunities, community service, and personal enrichment activities. The high school programequips students with intensive career preparation, goal planning, and leadership developmentalactivities. As a part of the program, students enjoy access to college & business related tours,career/trade fairs, guest speakers, community service, job shadowing and paid internshipopportunities. The high school curriculum covers more than 35 employability areas including:

C.O.R.E. INTERNADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

BARRIERSThrough JDG, students are members of the Delaware Career Association (DCA), a student-ledorganization designed to develop and refine critical skills delivered in the classroom. Each highschool program has a DCA chapter which elects officers to represent their school and coordinatedevelopment and service activities within the community. In November 2018, the DCA hostedit's Annual Leadership Conference where more than 160 students united for leadership trainingand to elect State Officers to represent Jobs for Delaware Graduates on the state andnational level. In April 2019, students geared up for the Annual Competitive Events Day, whichgives high school participants a platform to enhance and showcase their job readiness skills. Thetop competitors were recognized at our Annual Awards Luncheon in May.
The 2018-2019 DCA State Officer Team sponsored a state-widetoiletry drive to benefit the homeless and victims of domesticviolence. Together the students collected more than 600 itemsthat were donated with personal notes of inspiration to residentsat the Shepherds Place in Dover.

MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAMThe middle school curriculum focuses on fundamental skill development to benefit youth duringtheir most formative years. Through career exploration and project-based learning, participantscan strengthen their:
communication and organizational skills;leadership and confidence;problem-solving & decision making strategies.
Thanks to our partners, we were able to expose more than 130 middle school students tothriving career pathways at JDG's Annual College & Career Conference (Del Tech Stanton & TerryCampus); the Governor's Construction Expo (Chase Center); and Junior Achievement.
Our Middle School Program has a Students in Action Club, which is a student-run organizationlinked to Multiplying Good (formerly Jefferson Awards Foundation) and focuses on recognizingleadership and implementing community service activities. Both our middle and high schoolprograms take pride in their civic responsibility and together, have completed 17,116 hours ofservice within the past three years.
During Spring 2019, JDG contributed to Delaware'sconversation on youth employment with an article in theDelaware Business Magazine (March/April). With an audienceof more than 3,200 business and community leaders, thepublication discussed the importance of providing Delaware'syouth with quality employment and soft skill training, therebystrengthening their ability to obtain and sustain jobs thatprovide livable wages.

Effective classroom instruction is the foundation of our JDG programs. Through planned,purposeful, and progressive content, students are engaged in topics that are relevant totoday's employer. In 2018, with the help of the Christiana Care Health System, the JDGcurriculum began an major overhaul to ensure students received information that provedeffective in preparing the next generation of qualified personnel. Highlights of the revisedcurriculum include:

A MATCH MADE IN "SHIPLEY"JDG SUCCESS STORY
In 2018, JDG piloted an internship program, known as C.O.R.E., to help students gain the confidenceto perform in the working world. Through a partnership with Christiana Care, Integrity StaffingSolutions, Bloom Energy, Del-One Federal Credit Union, and Goodwill Industries, JDG developed anexperiential learning program that would allow 12th grade students to shadow with experiencedprofessionals from a list of traditional and non-traditional fields.

C. .R.EC.O.R.E. (Creating Opportunities through Real Experiences) is an experiential learning programdesigned to advance the 12th grade curriculum. C.O.R.E. includes a combination of in-classprojects and off-site job training through job shadowing, internships, and/or co-ops. Fromvideo surveillance to culinary arts, participants gain exposure to real-world situations that helpthem to explore career options, sharpen their professional skills, and make informeddecisions about their post-secondary pursuits. In the past year, JDG has added the Delaware Department of Education (DDOE) as a fundingsource to our overall program design. The funding has enabled us to add an additional highschool program, ultimately increasing our students served by over 1,000 participants across24 programs, state-wide. We have expanded our resources in our training and curriculumprograms which support the day-to-day teaching within the classrooms and strengthenoutcomes for our students.

Two-Term DCA State Officer, Morgan Wright, won2nd place in Public Speaking at Jobs for America'sGraduate's National Competition in Washington, D.C.
JDG partnered with Wilmington University to offer anonline 1-credit Business Course for high schoolstudents. Modules included: Personal Branding,Social Media & Marketing, Business Writing, andCustomer Service.
Christiana Care Health System was the first C.O.R.E.partner, hosting four students for an 8-monthrotation in Oncology, Pharmaceuticals, RehabilitationService, and Clinical Engineering.
