• To integrate Land Parameter Retrieval Model (LPRM) soil moisture data into operational WAOB GLADSE. [seamless; customized]
• To integrate LPRM-enhanced EPIC (Environmental Policy Integrated Climate) crop model into WAOB GLADSE. [changes]
• To leverage existing GES DISC Web services to facilitate integration of project outputs into GLADSE.
• To evaluate and benchmark impacts of integration of project outputs on GLADSE forecasts.
Objectives
UWG May 11, 2011
• SSI&T of LPRM into S4PM• Production of LPRM (L2) [Canadian user]• L3 LPRM in progress• [Assimilation of LPRM into EPIC to derive RZSM
(preliminary results; task modified)]• Giovanni-Soil Moisture portal near operational• GeoTIFF (samples, using AMSR-E SM) tested by
WAOB• Baselined WAOB GLADSE• Defined metrics – retrospective analysis of analog
year comparison

• Satellite data are complementary to weather station data, in identifying analog years.
• Results point to possibility of “calibrating” analog analysis methodology in station-rich areas, to be then applied in station-poor areas of the world.
• Retrospective analog analysis as metric seems feasible.
