1 Task Introduction

The TIA Portal offers the option to create the PLC program and the HMI configuration via software interface including all of the resulting advantages. However, in some cases, it is necessary to continue to create the PLC program with the “STEP 7 V5.x” software and the HMI configuration with the “WinCC (TIA Portal)” software due to technical or customer-specific reasons.

Overview of the automation task The figure below provides an overview of the automation task.

Figure 1-1

Tag handling?

Description of the automation task Case 1 The PLC program shall be created with the SIMATIC Software STEP 7 V5.x and the HMI project with the WinCC (TIA Portal) software. Data exchange between STEP 7 program and HMI operator panel is performed via “data blocks”. Tag handling shall be possible as in the case of a WinCC flexible project integrated in STEP 7.

Case 2 You have an existing STEP 7 project with an integrated MP277 Touch that was created with the WinCC flexible 2008 SP3 project. This MP277 Touch is to be replaced by a SIMATIC TP1200 Comfort Panel. Data exchange between STEP 7 program and HMI operator panel is performed via “data blocks”. Tag handling shall be possible as in the case of a WinCC flexible project integrated in STEP 7.

2 Solution There are several options to implement the tasks.

2.1 WinCC TagConverter

Display An output file containing the selected STEP 7 tag is generated with WinCC TagConverter. This output file is imported into WinCC (TIA Portal). The imported STEP 7 tags can then be used in the usual way. Figure 2-1

Source import

STEP 7 V5.x

WinCC (TIA Portal)

The source export and source import always offers itself when you are using STEP 7 V5.x for the PLC program and WinCC (TIA Portal) for the HMI configuration. If you are making any changes to the data blocks in the STEP 7 project that concern the HMI operator panel, you can update these changes or expansions with the help of the “source export/source import” function with the WinCC (TIA Portal) project.

2.3 Project migration

Display Migration of a WinCC flexible 2008 SP3 project or migration of a STEP 7 V5.x project including HMI configuration into the TIA Portal. Figure 2-3

STEP 7 V5.x

TIA Portal V12

Migrate project

The project migration offers itself if you have an existing STEP 7 V5.x project including an integrated WinCC flexible 2008 SP3 configuration and you want to exchange the existing HMI operator panel, for example, for a SIMATIC Comfort Panel. The TIA Portal offers the option to migrate the STEP 7 V5.x configuration including the WinCC flexible 2008 SP3 configuration into the TIA Portal. Alternatively, you can also copy the existing WinCC flexible 2008 SP3 configuration from the STEP 7 project and subsequently migrate it to WinCC (TIA Portal). The STEP 7 V5.x project remains unchanged here. If any changes are subsequently performed in the STEP 7 V5.x project which concern the HMI operator panel, you have to make these changes “manually” in the WinCC (TIA Portal) project. Instead of a “manual” adjustment, it is recommended to use the “source export/source import” function. For this purpose, please refer to chapter 2.1.

3.2 Source export/source import

During source export, data blocks from the STEP 7 program that are required for the data exchange between the SIMATIC controller and the HMI operator panel (STL source) are merged to one file.

3.2.1 Preparatory actions

• In order to insert the created file (STL source) into the WinCC (TIA Portal) configuration, the WinCC (TIA Portal) configuration has to include a SIMATIC controller. The SIMATIC controller (“dummy CPU”) has no other “jobs” Note: The CPU used, does not have to match the CPU used in STEP 7 V5.x.

• For the tag handling later on, a connection to the “dummy CPU” used should be configured in the WinCC (TIA Portal) project. The individual connection parameters should match the CPU used in STEP 7 V5.x.

3.2.2 Source export

Starting point

• An existing STEP 7 V5.x configuration. • A WinCC (TIA Portal) configuration that includes a SIMATIC controller.

Source import, example 2 Starting point • An existing TIA Portal configuration with an HMI project and a SIMATIC

controller (“dummy CPU” → see chapter 3.1). • In the “Program blocks” folder already contains data blocks that are to be

updated with the existing data blocks in the STEP 7 V5.x project.

Procedure Table 3-5

No. Action Screens

1. Importing the STL source • Open the TIA Portal configuration • Open the STEP 7 project folder via the project navigation.

– Open the “External sources” folder. – By double clicking “Add new external file” a Window’s window is opened. – Navigate to the “STL source” window that you would like to import. Where the storage

path of the STL source is located, was described above →…:\project file\s7asrcom\00000001.

In this example the “00000002.AWL” file is selected. Tip: In the “file name” box you can paste the previously copied name of the “storage path” (in this example: E:\Project_\s7asrcom\00000001 You will then get directly to the folder that contains the STL source.

3.3 Project migration

Depending on the initial situation, migrate the complete STEP 7 project including HMI configuration into the TIA Portal or only migrate the HMI configuration to WinCC (TIA Portal).

3.3.1 Partial project migration

In some cases it makes sense not to migrate the entire STEP 7 project including the HMI configuration into the TIA Portal. This may, for example, be the case when the hardware you use in the STEP 7 V5.x project is not supported by the TIA Portal. In cases like this it is advisable, for example, to only migrate the HMI configuration into the TIA Portal. Starting point • STEP 7 configuration with integrated WinCC flexible 2008 SP3 configuration

(e.g. MP 277 Touch project). • The WinCC flexible operator panel was copied from STEP 7 and

migrated into the TIA Portal. A detailed description can be found in entry ID 54695062.

Below is a brief description of how to proceed.

Brief description

Table 3-6

No. Action

1. WinCC Flexible Project migration Copy the WinCC flexible configuration from the STEP 7 V5.x project in the first step and subsequently only migrate the WinCC flexible 2008 SP3 configuration into the TIA Portal project.

2. Tag handling If you are performing any expansions or changes in the STEP 7 V5.x project that also affect the HMI operator panel than you can make the expansions or changes manually in the HMI project. Alternatively, use the “source export / source import” function (see chapter 3.1).

3.3.2 Complete project migration

The brief instruction describes how you can migrate a STEP 7 project with an integrated WinCC flexible 2008 SP3 project into the TIA Portal. Details on this issue can be found in entry ID 54695062. Starting point • STEP 7 configuration with integrated WinCC flexible 2008 SP3 configuration

(e.g. MP 277 Touch project). • The hardware used in the STEP 7 project is also available in the TIA Portal

hardware catalog. Table 3-7
