ANTERIOR TOOTH SETUP• MAXILLARY GUIDELINES
ON CAST– Center of incisive papilla– Line drawn along midline
of the cast through incisive papilla
– A perpendicular line drawn to above line through center of incisive papilla till land area (corresponds to canine placement)
ANTERIOR TOOTH SETUP• MAXILLARY GUIDELINES
ON WAX RIMS
• Midline on wax rim• Corners of the mouth
(canine line)• High lip line
ANTERIOR TOOTH SETUP• MANDIBULAR GUIDELINES
• Line drawn through the center of anterior ridge till land area – tells position of anterior teeth.
• Line drawn through center of posterior ridge and middle of retromolar pads – tells position of posterior teeth.
ANTERIOR TOOTH SETUP
• MAXILLARY CENTRAL INCISOR• Scoop out wax• Place the central incisor such that:
– Front : Its long axis is parallel to vertical axis– Side : It slopes labially about 15°– Occlusal plane : Its incisal edge contacts with
occlusal plane (lower wax rim).
MAXILLARY CENTRAL INCISOR
ANTERIOR TOOTH SETUP
• MAXILLARY LATERAL• Scoop out wax• Place the tooth such that when viewed from:
– Front: Long axis leans slightly mesial at incisal edge.– Side: It slopes labially about 20°.– Occlusal plane: Incisal edge is parallel but 1-2mm
short of occlusal plane.
MAXILLARY LATERAL INCISOR
ANTERIOR TOOTH SETUP
• MAXILLARY CANINE• Scoop out the wax• Place the canine such that when viewed from:
– Front : long axis parallel to vertical axis– Side : long axis parallel to vertical axis– Occlusal plane : cusp tip touches occlusal plane
MAXILLARY CANINE
ANTERIOR TOOTH SETUP
• MANDIBULAR CENTRAL INCISOR• Scoop out wax• Place tooth such that when viewed from:
– Front : long axis slightly inclines towards vertical axis– Side : slopes labially– Occlusal plane : incisal edge is 0.5-1mm above
occlusal plane
MANDIBULAR CENTRAL INCISOR
ANTERIOR TOOTH SETUP
• MANDIBULAR LATERAL INCISOR• Scoop out wax• Place the tooth such that when viewed from:
– Front : long axis inclines towards vertical axis– Side : slopes labially less than central incisor– Occlusal plane : incisal edge 0.5-1mm above
occlusal plane.
MANDIBULAR LATERAL INCISOR
ANTERIOR TOOTH SETUP
• MANDIBULAR CANINE• Scoop out wax• Place the tooth such that when viewed from:
– Front : long axis is inclines towards midline– Side : slopes lingually– Occlusal plane : cuspal tip is 0.5-1mm above
occlusal plane.
MANDIBULAR CANINE
COMPLETED MAXILLARY AND MANDIBULAR ANTERIOR TOOTH SETUP
POSTERIOR TOOTH SETUP• MAXILLARY GUIDELINES
• A line drawn is drawn on maxillary occlusal rim from the mid point of lateral incisor to the tuberosity.
• This line represents the palatal cusps of upper posterior teeth.
POSTERIOR TOOTH SETUP• MANDIBULAR GUIDELINES• A line is drawn on lower
occlusal rim corresponding to the center to the alveolar ridge that extends from cuspal tip of canine to the land area posterior to retromolar pad.
• This line represents the central groove of lower posterior teeth.
POSTERIOR TOOTH SETUP
• MAXILLARY FIRST PREMOLAR• Scoop out wax• Place the tooth such that when viewed from:
– Front : long axis parallel to vertical axis– Side : Long axis parallel towards vertical axis– Occlusal plane : buccal cusp touch occlusal plane
and palatal cusp is 1mm short of occlusal plane.
MAXILLARY FIRST PREMOLAR
POSTERIOR TOOTH SETUP
• MAXILLARY 2ND PREMOLAR• Scoop out wax• Place the tooth such that when viewed from:
– Front : long axis parallel to vertical axis– Side : long axis parallel to vertical axis– Occlusal plane : both the buccal and palatal cusps
are in contact with occlusal plane.
MAXILLARY 2ND PREMOLAR
POSTERIOR TOOTH SETUP
• MAXILLARY FIRST MOLAR• Scoop out wax• Place the tooth such that when viewed from: – Front : long axis slopes buccally– Side : long axis slopes distally– Occlusal plane : Only mesio-palatal cusp touches
occlusal plane
MAXILLARY FIRST MOLAR
POSTERIOR TOOTH SETUP
• MAXILLAY 2ND MOLAR• Scoop out wax• Place the tooth such that when viewed from:
– Front : long axis slopes buccally more steeply than first molar
– Side : long axis slopes distally more steeply than first molar– Occlusal plane : none of the cusp touches the occlusal
plane, only mesio-palatal cusp is nearest to occlusal plane.
MAXILLAY 2ND MOLAR
POSTERIOR TOOTH SETUP
• MANDIBULAR 1ST PREMOLAR• Scoop out wax• Place the tooth such that when viewed from:
– Front : long axis parallel to vertical axis– Side : long axis parallel towards vertical axis– Occlusal plane : buccal cusp 2mm above occlusal plane,
lingual cusp below occlusal plane– Occlusal contact : buccal cusp contacts the mesial
marginal ridge of upper first premolar
MANDIBULAR 1ST PREMOLAR
POSTERIOR TOOTH SETUP
• MANDIBULAR 2ND PREMOLAR• Scoop out wax• place tooth such that when viewed from :
– Front : long axis parallel to vertical axis– Side : long axis parallel towards vertical axis– Occlusal plane : both cusps about 2mm above occlusal
plane– Occlusal contact : buccal cusp contacts with fossa
between two upper premolars
MANDIBULAR 2ND PREMOLAR
POSTERIOR TOOTH SETUP
• MANDIBULAR 1ST MOLAR• Scoop out the wax• Place tooth such that when viewed from :
– Front : long axis lean lingually– Side : long axis lean mesially– Occlusal plane : all cusps higher than 2nd PM. Buccal and
distal cusps higher than other two.– Occlusal contact : mesio buccal cusp occludes in fossa
between upper 2nd PM and 1st Molar.
MANDIBULAR 1ST MOLAR
POSTERIOR TOOTH SETUP
• MANDIBULAR 2ND MOLAR• Scoop out wax• Place tooth such that when viewed from:
– Front : long axis leans more lingually– Side : long axis leans more mesially– Occlusal plane : all cusps higher than 1st molar– Occlusal contact : mesiobuccal cusp occludes in
fossa between two upper molars.
