Leadership in the Life of Joshua

Joshua: The Lord’s Soldier

•Joshua fought the Lord’s battles (Ex 17:8-13; 1 Tim 6:12; Eph 6:12)

•Joshua recognized God was fighting for them (Josh 23:3; 10:11-14; Num 14:6-9; Eph 6:10-11)

•This still required great strength and courage (Josh 1:6-7, 9; 2:1; 1 Cor 16:13)

Joshua: The Lord’s Teacher

•Joshua wasn’t just to lead in battle, but in teaching (Josh 1:7-8)

•This involved thorough instruction and continual reminder (Josh 8:34-35; 4:6-7; 24:25-27; Deut 6:6-9)

•This involved warning and punishment as well (Josh 6:17-19; 7:24-26; Heb 12:11)

Joshua: The Lord’s Servant

•Before Joshua was a leader, he was first a servant (Ex 24:12-13; 33:11; Matt 20:25-28)

•He humbled himself before God’s leadership (Josh 5:13-15; Prov 3:5-6)

•He determined to serve the Lord whether others followed or not (Josh 24:14-15, 29; 1 Pet 5:1-3)
