WednesdayAugust30thProjectTour-CowlitzHydroelectricProjectTwoseparatetourswereoffered,onethatfocusedonthevariousissuesandinfrastructureassociatedwithproject’saquaticimplementationandmonitoringprograms,andtheotherthatfocusedontheproject’sterrestrialwildlifeandlandmanagementprograms.TacomaPower’sJamieMurphyandChrisFosterfacilitatedthegrouptouroftheCowlitzSalmonHatcheryandCowlitzFallsNorthShoreCollector,whileEricRussellandCindySwanbergfacilitatedtheTerrestrialTour.ManyoftheprogramshighlightedwerethoserecentlyimplementedaspartoftherecentimprovementsmadebyTacomaPower.Participantswereallowedtochoosewhichtourtheywouldliketoattend.

Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery AquaticsTour

ThefirststopoftheAquaticsTourwasattheCowlitzSalmonHatchery,oneofthelargestfishhatcheriesinthestate.JamieMurphyprovidedanoverviewofTacomaPower’shatcheryprogramandoperations.EricShoblomansweredquestionsastohowthehatcheryisdesignedtohelpmeetprogramgoals.Participantswherethenallowedtotourthefacilityandobserveoperationsasadultsspawned.ThenextstopwasCowlitzFallsDamwhereChrisFoster

discussedtheCowlitzFallsNorthShoreCollector,someoftheuniquedesignfeaturesandsomeofthechallengesassociatedwithoperatingacollectoratafacilityoperatedbyaneighboringutility.Christhenleadatourandparticipantswereallowedfullaccesstoobserveoperations.

TerresterialTourTheTerrestrialTourwasledbyEricRussellandCindySwanbergandprovidedanoverviewoftheroughly14,200acreCowlitzWildlifeArea.ThetourstartedattheWashingtonDepartmentofFishandWildlife(WDFW)officeinMortonwheretheCowlitzWildlifeAreahostedatalkbywildlifescientistNicholleStephensonthefisherreintroductionwhichoccurrednearbyandthestatusofelkhoofdisease.BythenthecloudshadliftedandthefirsttourstopwasthetopofDogMountain,awell-knownhang-gliderlaunchofferingwideviewsofRiffeLake.ThereTacomaPowerleddiscussionsabouttheWildlifeSettlementAgreementafternearly25yearsofexperienceandthechallengesposedbythenewlowerlevelofRiffeLake.ThegroupjoinedtheAquaticTourinTacoma’sTaidnapamParkforlunch.Theremainingtimewasspentatthe

PetermanHillUnitoftheCowlitzWildlifeAreadiscussingforestmanagement.Someparticipantstookashorthikeonthetrailwhereitisrumoredabananaslugwassighted!

AfterafulldayspenttouringtheCowlitzRiverHydroelectricProject,thedayculminatedwiththeannualAPBdinnerbanquetatMcMenaminsOlympicClubindowntownCentralia,WA.

ThebowlingtrophywasawardedtoKyleMundy(TacomaPower).KyleclaimedthetitlebybowlingthehighestsinglegameaverageinAPBmemory(240)andthehighesttwogameaverageof170.ThelowsinglegamescorewasbowledbyMagieDavidwitha44,whilethelowtwogameaveragewasbowledbyErinKovalchuckwith60.

Reviewofthe2016MeetingMinutes:SecretaryMattBleichreadexcerptsfromthe2016meetingminutes(HostedbyPacifiCorp,Vancouver,WA)tothegroup.Themeetingminuteswereapproved.

1. TreasuryReport:DanCramerpresentedtheTreasuryReportatthemeeting.Thereportisincludedinthemeetingminutesbelow.

a. APBcarriedoverabalanceof$2,199.94fromthe2016meeting.TotalexpensesforAPBin2017were$5,810.00.Themeetingcostandannualbusinessexpensesweresharedamong48attendeeswhopaidaregistrationfeeof$65andacash

sponsorshipfromEdisonElectricalInstituteintheamountof$4,000.Afterthecompletionofthe2017meetingtheAPBtreasurybalancewas$3,445.20.

b. LitehouseTechnology,LLCcontinuedtodothewebsitehosting.Totalwebsitefeesfortheyearwere$40.34fortheannualGoDaddydomainrenewalfeeand$280.00toLithouseTechnologyforadministrativecosts.

4. OfficerNominationsandElections:RachaelPoston(SouthernCaliforniaEdison)was

nominatedbyDanCramer.Rachael’selectionwasdiscussedbythegroupandshewasunanimouslyvotedinasAPBsecretary/treasurer.CongratulationsRachael!

5. SpecialAcknowledgements:The2017APBOfficerswouldliketothankTacomaPower

forhostingthisyear’smeeting.APBwouldalsoliketothankoutgoingPresident/Treasurer,DanCramer,forallhisworkfortheorganizationoverthelastthreeyears.WewouldalsoliketoextendaveryspecialthankyoutoSarahBalloftheEdisonElectricInstituteforEEI’sgenerouscontributionof$4,000.ThiswasSarah’s6thyearof

providingtheAPBgroupwithfunding.ThisfundingkeepscostdownforattendeesandgreatlyimprovestheplanningprocessfortheAPBofficers.
