11. COMMISSIONING (TURN-UP) STATION A (PHASE 1) WARNINGS
• Where necessary, before disconnecting the earth connection, switch OFF the power supply.
• Do not connect instruments directly to the IDU/ODU cable connector since the connector carries 48 vdc used to feed the ODU.
• Do not connect the IF cable between IDU and ODU while the IDU is powered up.
11.1. Turn-on preliminary operations
WARNING ALL THESE OPERATIONS ARE PERFORMED WITH THE POWER OFF. For IDU connection refer to chapter 8 on page 25. For ODU connection refer to paragraph 8.5 on page 30.
The antenna of station A is roughly pointed towards station B.
The configuration of the equipment corresponds to the expected one; if this condition is true no HW/SW set up of the INDOOR and OUTDOOR units is needed because the equipment is preset at the factory.
Make visual inspection for subrack installation and cabling:
- the subrack allocation (or wall/table installation) according to the station lay-out
- the IDU rack and subrack ground connections
- the ODU ground connections
- The IDU / ODU interconnection cable is disconnected from IDU
- the power supply voltage is present (48 V dc) with the correct polarity at the power supply input
- In the case of a non-integrated antenna, the antenna and the ODU must be ground connected.
If the equipment is provided with wide band filters for frequency agility, particular attention must be paid that the ODU frequency configuration is properly set. Check the TRS document (Test Report Sheet).
NB: Make sure that IDU-ODU cable connection is removed in order to verify via CT the System. PTx, Power and Frequency Tx. settings as foreseen by Plant Documentation before powering up the ODU.

ED 02 Line-Up
3DB 05653 EAAA 45/100
Step 1
Figure 13 - Quick Installation Procedure: NE Configuration (Step 1)
The first step provides a screen to configure two NE parameters:
– Market (ETSI or ANSI); – Select configuration.
The possible selections for the NE Type are:
– Radio application: - 1+0 (PSU24 or PSU4860): unprotected configuration - 1+1 HST (PSU24 or PSU4860): Hot Standby protected configuration - 1+1 FD (PSU24 or PSU4860): Frequency Diversity protected configuration - 1+0 HST EXP (PSU24 or PSU4860): Hot Standby extendable configuration - 1+0 FD EXP (PSU24 or PSU4860): Frequency Diversity extendable configuration
The market choice implies a first selection of possible frame structure. The type definition implies the equipment configuration and other related functions: for example, the protection schemes supported.
WARNING: Should during this procedure to be selected a wrong type (i.e. PSU4860 instead of PSU24), to insert the correct type enter the System Settings menu NE configuration tab panel; select the correct type; click on Apply and then restart the EC by entering menu Supervision and by activating command "Restart NE".
N.B. for V 1.0.2 only: For the Remote NE in this step the Type and the Market cannot be modified. To modify them the System Settings menu must be used.
To go to step 2 click on button “Next”.

First horizontal pre-pointing (azimuth)
Horizontally place the antenna according to the direction set down in the “plant documents“ where, among the various indication are indicated those concerning the “reference points“ (Position of the tower or of the building with respect to true north) in order to point the antenna in the set direction. There are various procedures and technical means to adopt in order to mechanically pre-point the antenna, and they can be implemented in various ways according to the various configurations and to the various system conditions. Geographical Antenna pointing - The standard instrumentation is the compass.
Second vertical pre-pointing (zenith)
Place the antenna vertically nearest to its operating angle. The technical and operative procedure adopted to vertically point the antenna is as previously implemented to horizontally pre-point. Note
a ) At the end of the pre-pointing operation, slowly block all the horizontal and vertical regulating system of the antenna taking care not to modify dish direction
b ) Perform final antenna pointing (or connection) only after all antenna and ODU systems are fully installed.
(azimuth) Fine tuning Antenna pointing – Swipe the antenna from left to right side monitoring the PRx and reaching the maximum PRx level.
(zenith) Fine tuning Antenna pointing – Swipe the antenna from top to bottom side monitoring the PRx and reaching the maximum PRx level.
PRx level Monitoring:
Monitor the ODU PRx – AGC level by connecting the Multimeter through the supplied special ODU cable interface to the Outdoor Unit. For the use of this cable refer to Annex F on page 95.
The Rx received power can be measured also using a special cable, see paragraph 8.7 on page 31.

ANNEXES
Annex A Troubleshooting
A.1. Analog measurements
In case of two CT connected to the NE, as shown in the figure below, and at the same time both open on the menu Radio Power Meas, the analog measurements relevant to the PTx rem (Tx power of the Remote NE) and the PRx rem (Rx power of the Remote NE) could have some instabilities (i.e. an intermittent +99 dBm is reported for the PTx rem and -99 dBm is reported for the PRx rem).
A.2. NMS 64 kbit/s V.11 and G.703
For a correct operation the NMS channel has to be configured in one station as "DTE" and in the other station as "Codirectional".
This selection can be done in the Quick Configuration Procedure in Step 10 (for NMS V.11 channel) and in Step 11 (for NMS G.703 channel) or in the Menu Configuration Network Configuration IP Configuration
IP Point to Point Configuration.
A.3. Loopbacks
For a correct activation of every loopback (Loopback menu):
- the relevant tributary must be enabled (Quick Configuration Procedure Step 3)
- the local transmitter must be not muted (Menu Radio Configuration)
Note 1: The loopback will become active after 6-7 sec. approx. (24 sec. approx. for the RF loopback).
Note 2: The time for a new set is 120 to 160 sec. approx.

A.4. Empty USM icon in NES
Enter Windows Task Manager and stop the process relevant to the empty USM. A.5. NE unreachable
Due to a deep fading the radio remote NE can be unreachable. In this condition in the USM will appear the following message:
- The USM must be closed.
In the NES will appear a broken icon and a red bullet.
- Wait for the automatic restarting of the Supervision (at the end of the fading conditions). The icon in NES will become whole and the bullet will take the color relevant to the alarms (if any) active in the NE.
- If the Supervision does not start, close and open again the CT.
- If the Supervision does not start, switch off and switch on the PC. A.6. Configuration change from 4 QAM to 16 QAM
With 16 QAM the max. Tx power must be typically 3 dB below the max. Tx power of the 4 QAM (refer to the attached Test Result Sheet). A.7. Quick configuration menu correct use
The Quick Configuration menu must be used during the first installation to configure completely the NE and also if some multiple configuration changes must be done (i.e. change of all the tributaries from "Framed" to "Unframed" or vice-versa for the E1 signal or from "Unframed" to "Framed SF" or "Framed ESF" or vice-versa for the DS1 signal both in the Local and Remote NE).
