This work was performed on behalf of the EuroFIR-Nexus – the EuroFIR Food Platform and funded under the EU 7th Framework Programme. Grant agreement no: 265967.

OBJECTIVESEuroFIR FoodBasket has been developed to support citizens, dieticians and other healthcare providers with a simple online tool for calculation of food composition. Moreover, by supporting dedicated EuroFIR web services, it can also be used for delivering composite food information to other European projects.

BASIC FUNCTIONS

In close cooperation with EuroFIR AISBL, a team of web-designers and developers from IMR, JSI and THL has developed FoodBasket, a web-based application tool that can also be used on mobile platforms such as tablets. It is based on the Food Data Exchange Platform.

METHOD WEB ADDRESS

FoodBasket has a user-friendly and multi-lingual interface. A user can select any food composition database (FCDB) from the EuroFIR collection. Calculated results can be exported either to a text document or an XML file. Previously calculated recipes can be easily imported through the FoodBasket user interface and used as ingredients in new recipes.

CONCLUSIONS• FoodBasket is a new EuroFIR tool that will be refined into a more complex recipe calculator

when FCDBs will support retention and yield factors of most foods. • The tool has been integrated with other tools on the EuroFIR Food Data Exchange Platform such

as FoodEXplorer and EuroFIR e-learning modules.
