From the Chairman and President
BARC opened its doors in 1949 and celebrates 65
years of Giving People Purpose in 2014. It takes
hundreds of individuals to execute the many goings
-on at BARC. From business-to-business, private
individual efforts and a great BARC staff, we are
privileged to be surrounded by a supportive com-
munity, there to assist us in accomplishing our mis-
sion to serve individuals with intellectual and de-
velopmental disabilities in Bakersfield and Kern
County. Our commitment to excellence allows us
to provide the highest quality of services to more
than 400 individuals daily. Our sincere thanks to
all those who help us. On behalf of our Board of
Directors, staff, business partners and the Clients of
BARC… Bakersfield ARC, we are proud to pre-
sent our Annual Report for 2012-2013.

Lucia began the BARC on the MOVE program
in 2009. She took her first steps at BARC with
the help of a mobile stander and she graduated
to the use of a pacer allowing her to move her-
self.
When Kevin joined BARC in 2007 he was only
able to move about by crawling on the floor. He
started the BARC on the MOVE Program in 2008
and learned to walk upright for the first time in his
life using a pacer. Today he is able to move him-
self around with ease allowing him to enjoy work-
ing on projects and other activities with his family
and friends.
