Permissions

To install BCC Post-Presort, you must have read/write/delete permissions for the machine and loc-ation where you are installing the software. Your network administrator is responsible for settingthese permissions. The BCC Post-Presort installer does not set network access or user per-missions. If you encounter difficulties installing BCC Post-Presort due to permissions issues, pleasecontact your network administrator.

To use BCC Post-Presort, users must have read/write/delete permissions to any of the foldersnecessary to operate each application, as determined by the locations selected during installationof the software. Installing BCC Post-Presort for the First TimeThe steps on the following pages can help you get started if you're new to BCC Post-Presort,upgrading to a version higher than 8.9.06 for the first time, or installing the software on a new stan-dalone workstation or network.

Standalone or Network Installation?

BCC Post-Presort can be installed on a standalone workstation or on a network file server. The soft-ware is designed to be fully network capable.

The information in the following table can assist you in deciding which type of installation bestmeets your business needs.

Name Description

Standalone All software, databases and data files are installed on a standalone workstation. Onlyusers with permissions for the workstation can access the software, databases anddata files.

Network All software, databases and data files are installed in a central location (most com-monly on a network drive). One or more workstations can access the centrally locatedapplications and can process any jobs within the shared databases. Locking featureswill prevent certain functions (such as editing) from being performed simultaneouslyon the same job.

l If you are doing a standalone installation, please continue to the next section, InstallingBCC Post-Presort.

l If you are installing on a network, please review the section Installing BCC Post-Presort on aNetwork.

NOTE The FASTdb Appointment database has a fixed name and location that cannot bechanged (unlike MAILdb, which can have multiple databases in multiple locations). Therefore, ifat all possible, FASTdb should be installed on a network drive. If FASTdb is installed in multiplelocations, then there will be multiple Appointment databases, which is likely to cause problems.

Installation Guide | 7

IMPORTANT You will need a new license key the first time you install BCC Post-Pre-sort version 8.9.07 or later, even if an earlier version of MAILdb was installed.

Select My Profile in the main menu of the portal, then select My Products and Keys in theleft navigation bar. Find the license key listed for Post Presort (MAILdb). This is a text stringthat may include numbers, letters, and special characters. Copy the string to your computerclipboard, or write it down. You will need it later in the installation process.

Part II: Run the Installer

4. From your computer desktop, double-click the BCC Post-Presort .exe file and followthe on-screen prompts.

A. On the License Key page, you can enter your license key. In the first blank field, paste or type the text string you captured in step 3 above, then click Add. Youwill see a list of the products licensed to your organization.

B. The Select Products page displays a list that includes MAILdb, plus all the com-panion products your organization has licensed. By default, all listed productsare selected for installation. If you do not wish to install one or more of the com-panion products, select the check box to clear it, and that product will not beinstalled.

C. On the Installation Options page, you have two choices:l Install all products to the same location (recommended). This is the

default. If you select this option, the following page, Choose DestinationLocation, will show just one location, where all Post-Presort products willbe installed.

l Allow me to specify different locations for each product. If you select thisoption, the following page, Choose Destination Locations, will show onelocation per product, enabling you to select different locations to install dif-ferent Post-Presort products.

D. On the Choose Destination Location(s) page, the default installation location(s)are displayed—either one location for all products, or one location for eachlicensed product, depending on your selection in the previous step.If you wish to install in a location other than what is shown here, click Changeand navigate to the location of your choice.

l If Post-Presort has never been installed on this system before, the defaultinstallation location is C:\BCC Post Presort.

l If Post-Presort was previously installed on this system, the installer defaultsto the prior installation location. However, if the installer cannot determinethat location, it defaults to C:\BCC Post Presort.

IMPORTANT If you are updating from an earlier version of Post-Pre-sort, pay close attention to the installation location shown for MAILdband for each companion product. If this location is not the same onewhere the product was installed before, Post-Presort will get installedin a new location—possibly not where you intended.

Installation Guide | 8

NOTE If multiple destination locations are listed (one for each product):l Be sure to review the installation location for each product, and change

it if desired.

l If you click the Change button and then change the parent folder of theinstallation (for example, from C:\Monticello\MAILdb toC:\PostPresort\MAILdb), a dialog box will appear, asking if youwant the other products to be installed to that folder as well. If youselect Yes, the install location for each product now appears modified tomatch (so for our example above, you might now see C:\PostPre-sort\ENTRYdb, C:\PostPresort\PALLETdb, and so on). If youselect No, the installation location changes only for the product you aremodifying. This prompt appears only for the first product whose installation locationyou modify; it will not appear a second time if you subsequently clickthe Change button for a different product.

CAUTION If you want to install to a network location, make sure that net-work location is mapped to a drive on your local machine before installingBCC Post-Presort. During installation, choose the mapped drive (forexample, E:\directory) rather than the Universal Naming Convention(UNC) path (for example, \\server-name\directory) as the install-ation location. If you install the software to a network location represented by a UNC, youwill receive an error message if you attempt to launch the software from theWindows Start menu.

TIP If you have already installed the software to a location rep-resented by a UNC path, you can resolve the error by mapping the net-work location to a drive (if not done previously) and then editing theProperties of the Start menu shortcut so that the path is representedwith a mapped drive address rather than a UNC path. The shortcut foreach BCC Post-Presort product can be found in the location you selec-ted during installation; by default it is placed in C:\Pro-gramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu\Programs\BCC-Post-Presort\Product Name.

E. On the Select Program Folder page, the default location of the program folderand application shortcuts is displayed. If you wish to place the program folderand application shortcuts elsewhere, type or select the name of the desiredfolder.

NOTEl In Windows 10 Apps & features, the name of this folder will appear in

brackets after the application name (for example, BCC Post-Presort[BCC Post-Presort] or BCC Post-Presort [Monticello].

l Each folder can hold only one installation of Post-Presort, so if you laterdecide to create a second, separate installation of Post-Presort on thissame system, you will need to give the folder a different name.

After Installation

Once BCC Post-Presort is installed, you need to add USPS Data Files.

Network InstallationIf you have opted for a network installation, please see the notes below regarding first-time install-ation and subsequent updates.

Installing BCC Post-Presort on a Network

The following information describes an initial network installation.

To install your software in a network environment, you must choose a single location (directory) onthe network drive where you want BCC Post-Presort and its related databases to reside. Once a loc-ation has been designated, the software must be installed on each workstation that will access thesystem, one at a time, to the same directory.

Using the same directory will ensure that every workstation is using the same version of the soft-ware and operating on the same databases.

IMPORTANT You must perform the software installation from each workstation in order toensure that important system files (DLLs, etc.) are available to each user and that the programshortcuts are created with the correct information.

NOTE In a network installation, you can install a companion product to a workstation thatdoes not contain MAILdb, as long as MAILdb is installed elsewhere on the network.

Aside from the modifications mentioned above, you can install BCC Post-Presort following theinstructions in the section Installing BCC Post-Presort.

Updating BCC Post-Presort on a Network

To update your products in a network environment, just one networked device (workstation orserver) must install the new software. The software must be installed to the same designated dir-ectory used during the initial installation. When any subsequent workstation executes the soft-ware, the user will be notified that an update is needed. A message will display, offering animmediate automatic software update, or allowing the user to quit and exit. These updates typ-ically finish very quickly and will not require user input.

Aside from the modifications mentioned above, you can update BCC Post-Presort following theinstructions in the section Applying Product Updates.

NOTE A client workstation on which the BCC Post-Presort installer version 8.9.07 or later hasnever been run will retain entries for the older, standalone installers in Windows 10 Apps & fea-tures, rather than having a single entry for BCC Post-Presort (as it would if the newer installerwere run on the workstation). For example, if the organization has licensed MAILdb, ENTRYdb,and POSTAGEdb, the client workstation would show three separate entries in Windows 10 Apps& features—one for MAILdb, one for ENTRYdb, and one for POSTAGEdb. These entries will dis-play the older installer's version number and date. Old shortcuts will also persist. However, theclient workstation will get an update message when the server is updated with the latest soft-ware, and the software on the client station will be updated to the latest version. (You canverify this by launching MAILdb, or a companion product, and checking the software versionnumber displayed at the top of the Control Center.)

If you want to run the new installer on the client workstations to "clean up" the old stand-aloneinstallers and consolidate to the new BCC Post-Presort Apps & features entry, you can do that. There will be no functional difference in the applications either way.

NOTE On rare occasions (for example, a major mail.dat version change), the automaticworkstation update may not be supported. If this happens, you will be notified, and it will benecessary to install the software from each workstation as if you were doing an initial install-ation.
