About the Pleasantville Community Garden

PleasantvilleCommunityGardenMissionStatement

Toprovidefresh,nutritiousfoodtothehungryinWestchesterCounty,bygrowingandgatheringhealthyvegetablesforlocalfoodpantries.Thegardenwillbebuilt,maintainedandoperatedbymulti-generationallocalvolunteergroupsandindividualsworkingtogethertoaidpeopleinneed.Thegardenwillbeorganicandadheretoreduce/reuse/recycleprinciples.

Overview

TheideaofthePleasantvilleCommunityGardenwasdevelopedbyDevinJuros,a7thgraderatthetime,whowantedtohelphiscommunityandthehungryinWestchester.Duringthewinterof2013,Devinworkedontheconceptofacommunitygardenandlaterhepresentedtheideatohisfamilywhoacceptedtheideaandagreedtohelphiminhisquest.Afterthat,theprocessofcreatingthegardengainedtractionascontactsweremadeandrelationshipsformedinthecommunity.Thelistofsupportersslowlygrewashepresentedtomorecommunitymembersandcommunitygroupsandmetmorepeople.Astheideastartedtobecomerealitymorefundraisingwasimplementedandthepreparationsfortheconstructionofthegardentookshape.DuringtwoweekendsinMayandJuneof2014thegardenwasbuiltwiththesupportofover100localvolunteers.Inthefirstcalendaryear,over1,500poundsoffreshvegetablesweregrownandgatheredanddonatedtolocalfoodpantries.Asof9/1/16-theorganizationhasdonatednearly21,000poundsoffreshproduce-bothgrownandgathered!WegraciouslythankthetownofPleasantville,thepeopleofPleasantville,St.John'sChurchandeveryoneelsewhohassupportedourcause-wecouldnothavedoneitwithoutyou.

• Abidsheetwillaccompanyeachitem.Thebidsheetwillstatethenameoftheitem,thenameofthedonor,anapproximatevalueoftheitem,anopening(minimum)bidamountandaminimumraiseamount.

• Thebidderistousethebidsheettorecordhis/herbids.Bidsmuststartattheminimumamountorhigherandmustberaisedbyatleastthe

minimumraiseamount.

• Guestsmaybidasoftenastheywishoneachitemuntilbiddingisclosedonthatitem.Guestsmustrecordnewbidsonthelineunderthecurrentbid.DONOTcrossoutyourpreviousbidandputinanewamount,asthiswillconstituteaninvalidbid.

• Allbiddersmustbeatleast18yearsofage.

• Thesilentauctioncommitteereservestherighttokeepbiddingopen,lowertheminimumbidorreturnadonateditemiftheoriginal

minimumbidonthatitemisnotreceivedbyatable’sclosingtime.

• Announcementswillbemadewhenindividualtablesofitemsareacceptingfinalbids.Anotherannouncementwillbemadeoncetablesarenolongeracceptingfinalbids.Anybidsplacedaftertheclosingannouncementwillbeinvalid.

• Thehighestbiddershallberesponsibleforpurchasingtheitem.Ifthehighbidisdeemedtobeinvalid,theitemswillthenbeawardedtothe

nexthighestbidderwithavalidbid.

• PaymentisacceptedonlyincashorcheckmadeouttoSt.John’sEpiscopalChurch(pleaseincludePleasantvilleCommunityGardeninthememoline).
