Wichita, Kansas October 2, 2017

Roll Call The Board of Education of Unified School District No. 259, Sedgwick

County, Kansas, met in special session in the Wichita High School North Lecture Hall, 1437 Rochester, Wichita, Kansas, at approximately 6 p.m., on October 2, 2017, with President Mike Rodee presiding.

Present: Betty Arnold, Joy Eakins, Barbara Fuller, Sheril Logan, Mike Rodee, and Lynn Rogers.

Board President Mike Rodee requested a moment of silence for the Las Vegas community following a mass shooting on October 1st.

Ms. Arnold (Ms. Fuller) moved the Board of Education approve the following items of routine business.

The motion passed 6-0. 2017-18 Agreement with Service Employees International Union, Local 513, as amended with changes to salary benefits package, 2017-18 Agreement with Uniformed Security Officers and Security Dispatchers, SEIU, Local 513, and 2017-18 Salary Schedules for A-Jc Classified Personnel, Safety Services Personnel, Confidential Group, and K-Z Classified Personnel Appendix 1

Approve: a. The tentative agreement for one year, 2017-18, with the Service

Employees International Union, Local 513 with changes to the salary benefits package as the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit of classified employees, and authorizes the Board President to sign the agreement as presented.

b. The tentative agreement with the Uniformed Security Officers and Security Dispatchers, Service Employees International Union, Local 513, with changes to the salary benefits package as the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit of classified employees, and authorizes the Board President to sign the agreement as presented.

c. The 2017-18 salary schedule for A-Jc Classified Personnel and the Uniformed Security Officers and Security Dispatchers, and the Confidential A-JC group of classified employees by adopting the included salary schedules.

d. The 2017-18 salary schedule for K-Z Classified Personnel and Technical and Supervisory Classified Personnel and the elected and/or appointed representatives of classified employees by adopting the included salary schedules.

Operations Board of Education Interviews: BOE District 4 Vacancy

At the regular Board of Education meeting on September 11, 2017, Board member Jeff Davis resigned his position on the Board of Education because he had moved out of the boundaries of USD 259. At that meeting, the Board approved the publication of a legal notice in The Wichita Eagle regarding the vacancy. The Board also approved an application and interview process. The legal notice was published on September 14th, and it provided interested persons until noon on September 28th to submit completed applications and letters of reference. An application form, BOE District 4 map, and other information was available on the BOE’s section of the district Web site from September 14th until noon on September 28th. Each qualified applicant submitted a complete application with three letters of reference, is a resident of BOE District 4, and is registered to vote. On September 29th, the Board interviewed the three qualified applicants: Stan Reeser, Tonya Riepe, and Joshua Blick. Tonight, the Board continued the appointment process.

Ballot 1: Voting for Stan Reeser: Betty Arnold, Barbara Fuller, Sheril Logan, Mike Rodee, and Lynn Rogers. Voting for Tonya Riepe: None. Voting for Joshua Blick: Joy Eakins. Board members thanked all applicants for participating in the process, and congratulated Stan Reeser on his appointment as Board of Education member for BOE District 4. Mr. Reeser will take the Oath of Office at the Sedgwick County Election Office this week and take his seat at the Board table at the special meeting on October 9th at 5:30 p.m.

Executive Session At approximately 6:11 p.m., Ms. Arnold (Mr. Rogers) moved the Board of

Education recess forthwith into Executive Session regarding:

1. Negotiations Matters. In order to protect the confidentiality of matters relating to employer-employee negotiations;

The open meeting to resume at approximately 6:30 p.m. in this room.

The motion passed 6-0. At approximately 6:30 p.m., Executive Session was extended for 6

minutes.

At approximately 6:36 p.m., Executive Session was extended for 10 minutes.

At approximately 6:46 p.m., Executive Session was extended for 10 minutes.

Reconvene Meeting At approximately 6:59 p.m., Board President Rodee reconvened the meeting.

Adjournment Mr. Rogers (Ms. Logan) moved the meeting adjourn.

The motion passed 6-0.

At approximately 7:00 p.m., the meeting adjourned.
