BORN DIGITAL ARCHIVES @ GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM FELLOWSHIP APPLICATION

2016-2017 Fellowship information The purpose of the Born-Digital Archives Fellowship is to provide support for a MSLIS student with the Advanced Certificate in Archives to apply born-digital archival skills and practices in one of the city’s great museums: the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. The fellowship allows students to apply the knowledge and skills they obtained from their course work in a professional setting while developing new skills through participation in an on-site internship. Relevant skills and technologies include managing born-digital records, digital forensics, file format migration, web archiving, and using tools such as ArchivesSpace and Archivematica.

The fellowship recipient will commit to working on-site at the museum for 8 hours/week (120 hours/semester for the fall 2016 and spring 2017 semesters; 30 weeks total from September 2016-May 2017). This fellowship includes a scholarship in the amount of $5,000 that will be divided equally between the fall 2016 and spring 2017 semesters. Fellows must register for LIS 665 Projects in Digital Archives (fall 2016) and LIS 698 Practicum/Seminar (spring 2017). If the fellowship recipient has previously taken LIS 665 Projects in Digital Archives, this requirement can be substituted with another archives course subject to the approval of the Dean of the School of Information. The successful applicant must take at least 6 credits in both the fall 2016 and spring 2017 semesters. Please note that continuing the fellowship through spring 2017 is contingent upon review of the fall 2016 semester by Guggenheim Archives staff. Archives projects are generally conducted from the Guggenheim Offices (345 Hudson Street in SoHo) and at the historic Brooklyn Army Terminal, both easily accessible from the NYC Subway. The fellowship recipient will be selected by Guggenheim Museum archivists following an initial review by SI staff. Official notification will be made by mid-June. Please contact the SI Office with questions about the fellowship and/or application process.
