Learning Centre, a special sen-iors’ dinner was put on by theWentworth Learning CentreCo-operative assisted by theWentworth United Church. Itoccurs because of the impor-tance of the seniors in thecommunity, many of whomare involved in volunteer workto help the social and eco-nomic life of the Wentworthand area community.
The program was intro-duced by Linda Patriquin. Themenu consisted of roastturkey, potatoes, vegetables,gravy, pumpkin and apple pie,rolls, tea and coffee. A friend-ship time occurred before the
meal was served. As the sen-iors and their drivers enjoyedthe tasty food, they chatted, re-newed friendship and had agreat deal of fun. What atremendous treat!
Volunteer workers at theseniors’ Dinner were MaryAnne Jay (the cook), Linda Pa-triquin, Donna Parker, KevinPalmer, Marie Duranceau andher husband, and others. Thetable centerpieces were madeby the “Crafter’s Corner”group.
After the wonderful sen-iors’ Dinner was over, Trishefrom the Cumberland CountySeniors’ Safety Program spokeabout her work. Then came en-tertainment from two great
singers, Lawry and MaryMacLeod, Oxford. They havebeen entertaining at Cumber-land County events for manyyears. They are retired teacherswho have always enjoyedtheir involvement with musi-cal and drama productions nomatter the size of the audienceor the purpose of the get-to-gether. On Tuesday, Dec. 10 atthe Wentworth Learning Cen-tre (the old WentworthSchool) Mary and Lawry wereinvited to a turkey dinner forthe seniors in the area organ-ized by the Wentworth Learn-ing Centre Cooperative group.Following the meal they sanga variety of Christmas songsranging from traditional carols
to a comical narrative versionof the Twelve Days of Christ-mas and The Fruitcake Song.They also sang their renditionof “Mary Did You Know”, abeautiful reflection on Maryand Jesus, written by MarkLowry.
The seniors’ Dinner was avery important event as it ac-knowledged the contributionof seniors in the past and inthe present.

cil assists not-for-profit organi-zations with a grant up to$1,000 to pay up to 50% of in-surance costs. In the past therewere at least two intakes, how-ever last year Craig Burgess, Di-rector Recreation Servicesasked for council’s approval togo to one intake per year.
The fall application dead-line for the Not-for-Profit In-surance Program was October25, 2019 with a budget of$27,000. When staff reviewedthe 58 applications the aggre-gate total of policy premiumswas $97,805.07 of which $60,695.99 was identified asqualified. Burgess’ office re-ceived 58 applications award-ing a total of $25,783.27leaving $1,300 unallocated.Last year, the County received55 applications.
