The Internet is a worldwide, publicly accessible
series ofinterconnectedcomputer networks that
transmit data by packet switching using the
standard Internet Protocol(IP). It is a "network ofnetworks that consists of millions of smaller
domestic, academic, business and government
networks, which together carry various information
and services, such aselectronic mail, online chat,
file transfer, and the interlinked Web pages and
other documents of theWorld Wide Web.

The shared global computing network. A
network based on standards including Internet
Protocol (IP),Simple Mail Transfer Protocol(SMTP) and the Domain Name System (DNS),
which enables global communications between all
connected computing devices. It provides the
platform for web services and the Worldwide Web.

The network gained a public face in the1990s. By 1996 usage of the word "Internet"had become commonplace, and consequently,so had its misusage as a reference to theWorld Wide Web.
Meanwhile, over the course of the decade, the Internet successfully accommodated themajority of previously existing public computernetworks (although some networks, such asFidoNet, have remained separate) During the1990s, it was estimated that the Internet grew
by 100% per year, with a brief period ofexplosive growth in 1996 and 1997. This growthis often attributed to the lack of centraladministration, which allows organic growth ofthe network, as well as the non-proprietaryopen nature of the Internet protocols, whichencourages vendor interoperability andprevents any one company from exerting toomuch control over the network. As ofJune 10,2007, 1.133 billion people use the Internetaccording to Internet World Stats

The Internet is allowing greater
flexibility in working hours and location,
especially with the unmetered high-
speed connections & Web applications.
The Internet can now be accessed
virtually anywhere by numerous means.
Mobile phones, datacards, handheld
game consoles and cellular routers allow
users to connect to the Internet fromanywhere there is a cellular network
supporting that device's technology.

The prevalent
language for
communication on the
Internet is English.
This may be a result ofthe Internet's origins,
as well as English's
role as the
lingua franca. It may
also be related to the
poor capability of early
computers, largely
originating in the
United States, to
handle characters
other than those in theEnglish variant of the
Latin alphabet.

There have been many analyses of the Internetand its structure. For example, it has beendetermined that the Internet IP routing structureand hypertext links of the World Wide Web areexamples ofscale-free networks.Similar to the waythe commercial Internet providers connect viaInternet exchange points, research networks tend
to interconnect into large subnetworks such as: GEANT GLORIAD The Internet2 Network (formally known as the
Abilene Network) JANET (the UK's
national research and education network)These in turn are built around relatively smallernetworks. See also the list ofacademic computer network organizations.Innetwork diagrams, the Internet is often representedby a cloud symbol, into and out of which networkcommunications can pass.

Teachers use blogs to replace the
standard class Web page
Instructors begin to link to Internetitems that relate to their course.
Blogs are used to organize in-class

Some instructors are using blogs toorganize class seminars and to

A Web site is a related collection of WorldWide Web (WWW) files that includes abeginning file called a home page. Acompany or an individual tells you how to
get to their Web site by giving you theaddress of their home page. From the homepage, you can get to all the other pages ontheir site. Since site implies a geographicplace, a Web site can be confused with aWeb server. A server is a computer that
holds the files for one or more sites. A verylarge Web site may be spread over anumber of servers in different geographiclocations. You can have multiple Web sitesthat cross-link to files on each others' sites
or even share the same files.

NECESSITIES OF WEBSITE
An ecommerce web site is the main tool thatinternet-based businesses use to advertise, their
products and services, to make their salespresentation, to close sales, and to process ordersand payments. Every internet-based businessdoesn't necessarily need an ecommerce web site.Whether or not an ecommerce web site is neededreally depends upon the type of business and the
purpose of the website. To decide what type of website you need for yourinternet business, it is useful to learn about the mostcommon types of websites and their purposes. Avery basic website, sometimes called a staticwebsite, is primarily used for advertising or leadgeneration purposes. A static website or lead
generation website is a website that aims togenerate business leads and this type of website iscommonly used by service companies andprofessionals who wish to provide an overview oftheir business to attract interest from potentialcustomers.
This type of website, using techniques such asoffering free newsletters, is very good for generatingleads as well as building an opt-in list of potentialclients and their contact information. Building anopt-in list is very useful for email marketing, directmail marketing, and even telemarketing. Sometimes
an ecommerce web site also serves as a leadgenerator as well as a sales tool.

It may be difficult for researchers to locateespecially if there are many similar sites.Because it is not published or authorizedby a reputable source, the site may bedisregarded as inaccurate. The information on the site may not be
reliable.Information may be interpreted incorrectlyor used inappropriately.A connection to the web is needed to accessthe information, which will be impossible if a
computer and connection is not available. It may be difficult to reach your targetaudience.Because the author is not present whenothers are retrieving information there is noopportunity to ask questions or have thingsexplained in greater detail etc.The site may go down or the computer maycrash.Site may be difficult to use if experience with

Ecommerce means - Doing business onlintypically via the Web. It is also called e-business, e
tailing and I-commerce. Although in most cases e
commerce and e-business are synonymous, e
commerce implies that goods and services can b
purchased online, whereas e-business might be useas more of an umbrella term for a total presence o
the Web, which would naturally include the e
commerce (shopping) component.
E-commerce may also refer to electronic da
interchange (EDI), in which one company's compute
queries and transmits purchase orders to anothe
company's computer. See m-commerce, micr
commerce and clicks and mortar.

CONCLUSION
Though, Internet can also create
havoc, destruction and its misuse can be
very fatal, the advantages of it outweigh
its disadvantages.
