Roads were very important to the Romans, they made travelling easier between towns and cities.

How Romans made roads• First they made a base out of clay• Then they laid a layer of bigger stones on

top followed by a layer of smaller stones• Next they compacted the stones• Then they dropped kerb stones in each side• Finally they put sand down and curved it.

The Romans began to use a lot of concrete in their buildings in 60AD

The Romans made concrete out of volcanic ash from Mount Vesuvius and mixed it with lime and water

They made huge buildings out of it such as the Pantheon in Rome. The dome on the Pantheon is still the worlds largest unreinforced concrete dome.
