position,forthesameorganization,since2008.IcompletedmyMastersofClinicalScience-WoundHealingprogramattheUniversityofWesternOntarioin2012.

BeforebecominganEnterostomalTherapyconsultantIhadsevenyears’experience

workingasaregisterednurseincommunitycareinEdmontonandfouryearsasapalliativenurseattheKingFaisalSpecialistHospitalinRiyadh,SaudiArabia.IteachCPRandIhavebeenaCPRinstructorsince2006.

IreceivedmydegreeinnursingfromtheUniversityofAlberta,graduatingin1997.IfinishedtheCanadianAssociationofEnterostomalTherapyprogramin2010.IamnowacertifiedEnterostomalTherapyNurse.

Ienjoyspendingtimewithmyhusband,Angus,anddog,Doogal,planningandtaking

vacationsandscubadiving.IamcurrentlytheCAETRegionalDirectorforPrairies/NWTandNunavut.Ihavebeenin

thispositionforthelastfouryearsandhaveparticipatedinanumberofworkinggroupsfortheCAETassociation.

AdvocatingforEnterostomalTherapyNursesinCanada:IbelieveinadvocatingfortheEnterostomalTherapy(ET)nurserolewithinourhealthcaresystem.Asspecialistsinwound,ostomyandcontinencemanagementweareavitalcomponenttothestructureofhealthcareinCanada.Withourspecialityknowledgewesupporttheheathcaresystembyprovidingexpertcareinacosteffectivemannertopatientswithwound,ostomyandcontinenceissues.IhavebeeninanactiveEnterostomalTherapyConsultantpositionforeightyears.InthispositionIpracticeinallthreeoftheEnterostomalTherapydomains;wound,ostomyandcontinencemanagement.IregularlycollaboratewithotherEnterostomalTherapynursesinacuteandcommunitycare.IunderstandandrelatetothecomplexitiesoftheETrole.IunderstandthevaluethattheETnurseofferstoboththepatientandthehealthcaresystem.AsaCNAcertifiedETnurseIwantahealthcaresystemthatunderstandsmyroleandthevalueIaddtotheorganization.IamcurrentlytheCAETRegionalDirectorforPrairies/NWTandNunavut.IhavebeeninthispositionforthelastfouryearsandhaveparticipatedinanumberofworkinggroupsfortheCAETassociation.IparticipatedinthedevelopmentoftheETnurserevisedpracticestandardsandfeelthishasbeenagreatreviewoftherolesoftheETnurse.IfeelthatmyexperienceasaRegionalDirectorhaspreparedmetobeeffectiveleaderinadvocatingfortheETnurseinCanada.AsthePresidentElectandfuturepresidentoftheCAETassociationIwilladvocatefortheroleoftheETnurse,forCAETandforallourmembersasthehealthcaresystemevolvesinthecomingyears.MovingforwardasanassociationIbelieveCAETneedstohelpdefinerolesandresponsibilitiesoftheETnursewithinthechanginghealthcaresystem.ETnursesplayavitalroleinhealthcareandIamcommittedtoadvocatingforandpromotingthevalueoftheETnurseinthedeliveryofexpertwound,Ostomyandcontinencenursingpractice.
