This technical level symposium is a knowledge cluster for all the maritime
institutions in the country. This gives all the young marine engineers a
center stage to showcase their talents and also cultivates a spirit of
working in a team and instills competitiveness among the students.
The main aim of NATATORIAL 2K13 is to provide young seafarers a gist about new challenges
and developments in technical as well as routine aspects carried out in the shipping industry.
With the theme of the symposium as “Ship Energy Efficiency Management”, we expect our
budding marine engineers to show their own thinking and technical sense through various events
conducted by the symposium.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE LOGO
COMPASS
A compass is a navigational instrument that shows directions in a frame of reference that is
stationary relative to the surface of the earth. The compass in the logo shows that the journey of the
‘NATATORIAL’ is in a direction looking forward for the attainment of excellence. The journey
discovers the talent and enriches the experience of all those who are a part of it.
SAIL
A sail is a surface, typically made of fabric and supported by a mast, whose purpose is to
propel a ship by using the wind energy. The sail in the logo denotes the collection of knowledge and
talent by conducting various competitions and directing them in the right direction to propel our
industry forward.
FLAG
The flag of a ship contains the emblem of the nation or the company to which it belongs. The
flag in the logo suggests that ‘NATATORIAL’ is an integral part of our industry.
WAVE
Wave is the disturbance on the surface of a liquid. It is the up and down movement of the
water particles. The waves in the logo depict the odds and hardships an individual faces in his life,
‘NATATORIAL’ acts as a platform for showing their worth to the world and rise beyond the
expectations.
REGISTRATION FEES: ₹500 /- per participant (Includes Accommodation and Catering Expenses).
EVENT DESCRIPTION RULES
TECHNO-VITRINE (PAPER PRESENTATION)
Participants of respective team will have to present technical paper based on their ideas and theories.
Theme for this year presentation is “SHIP ENERGY EFFICIENCY MANAGEMENT”.
For your convenience you can refer the following topics 1. Engine energy efficiency. 2. Hull energy efficiency. 3. Voyage planning & Weather routing. 4. Computerized program for monitoring ship energy efficiency. 5. Fuel Economy and Carbon trading. 6. Ship design-Sail, wave energy, engines on LPG.
Abstract of the paper should be a word document.(350 - 400 words)
2 members per team.
10 minutes per team for presenting.
5 minutes questionnaire.
You can upload your abstract online.
INVESTI-CON (CASE STUDY)
Participants need to analyze the major ship accidents in the shipping industry and put forward their understandings of what went wrong and how it could have been prevented.
Topics should pertain to the recent ship accidents (2000-till date).
Abstract of the paper should be a word document.(350 - 400 words)
2 members per team.
10 minutes per team for presenting.
5 minutes questionnaire.
TRIVIA (MARINE QUIZ)
Topics related to general trend in the industry, maritime science and technology, etc.
2 members per team.
The quiz details will be provided on the spot.
A prelim round will take place if number of teams exceeds the limit.
PROTO-WAR
(MODEL MAKING)
This is an in-house competition.
Projects from all departments will be displayed & demonstrated by the participants.
Results will be decided by an expert panel.
Minimum 5 members per team.
GUEST LECTURE A guest lecture will be conducted by eminent people in the shipping industry.
AMUSE-HERN (FUN CORNER)
Crossword: Participants will be given a crossword filled with ship terms.
