Fire Ratings

Fire ratings provide a means of measuring the effectiveness of an extinguisher in terms

of the maximum size of fire that can be extinguished.

Class A rating is related to a wooden crib fire 0.5m wide x 0.56m high x length. The

rating figure is ten times the length in metres, eg. 13A uses a crib 1.3 metres long.

Class B is related to fire surface area and the rating figure to the quantity of flammable

liquid in a ratio of 1/3 water, 2/3 fuel that can be extinguished in a circular tray.

Class F relates to cooking oil and cooking fat fires. There are 4 benchmark tests using

5, 15, 25 and 75 litres of sunflower oil. The oil is heated to auto-ignition and allowed to

pre burn for 2 minutes. Fire is extinguished and no re-ignition shall occur within 10

minutes of extinguishing the fire.

The EP9M is a high performance Monnex powder extinguisher suitable mainly for

Class B risks.

The EP9M has a fire rating of 233B and is suitable for high risk areas such as flammable

liquid or chemical stores and has a 15 bar working pressure for optimum performance.

Pyromet

The Pyromet powder extinguisher is designed to be highly effective against metal fires

(Class D). Examples of such metal fires include lithium, sodium, magnesium and

aluminium when in the form of powder or swarf.

The unique Pyromet applicator enables the fire fighting powder to be applied in such a

way as to smother the burning material and kill the flames. Not suitable for use on liveelectrical fires.

SILICONE RUBBER COATED

Chubb Fire blankets are made from the highest quality glass fibre material which is

carefully coated with silicone rubber. Fats and oils will not soak through the blanket so

eliminating the danger of vapour re-ignition.

STRONG CONTAINERS

The PB range containers are manufactured from impact resistant PVC to withstand the

day to day knocks of a busy environment. The design allows for immediate access to

the blanket in the event of an emergency.

THREE SIZES AVAILABLE

The PB range is available in three sizes: 1m x 1m for domestic applications; 1.2m x

1.2m for light industrial risks; 1.8m x 1.2m for industrial and larger commercial

kitchens. All three sizes come complete with fixings.

FULL INSTRUCTIONS

The blanket comes with full folding instructions. To replace simply follow the

diagrams printed on the back of the container.

PERSONAL PROTECTION

The blanket may be used to wrap around a person whose clothing is alight, to smother

the flames. It should not be removed until medical help arrives.

ONLY SUITABLE FOR

Wrapping/smothering people and small contained fires (frying pan/chip pan), otherwise

use a wet chemical extinguisher.

The powders recommended for use with this unit are Chubb Fire GP (general purpose

Class A, B & C) and Monnex (Class B & C ). These powders are capable of dealing with

Class B flammable liquid fires and fires involving flammable gases such as methane,

LPG etc. (Class C fires). GP can also deal with Class A fires involving carbonaceous

materials such as wood and paper.

All powders listed can be applied to electrical fires.

These extinguishers have seamless steel CO2 cylinders conforming to BS 5045 Part 1,

clamped to two wheeled trolley frames which are provided with stowage for the hose

and applicator.

All CO2 cylinders are provided with a screw-down valve, safety pin and safety-bursting disc.

The standard applicator is a 470mm long non-conducting horn with integral handle.

A discharge valve is provided.

A squeeze grip control is supplied with the applicator to allow full control of the discharge.
