DEPARTMENT HEADThe University of ManitobaFaculty of Human Ecology

The Faculty of Human Ecology at the University ofManitoba is seeking a Head for the Department of Foodsand Nutrition. This is a tenure-track position and theappointment will be made at the rank of associate or fullprofessor. Candidates should have demonstrated admin­istrative and leadership skills, and a record of scholar­ship in the foods or nutrition area or in a closely relateddiscipline.

The Head reports to the dean of the Faculty of HumanEcology and is responsible for the management of theDepartment and the administration of undergraduate andgraduate programs in foods, nutrition and dietetics. TheOepartment has 10 full-time faculty members, an activeresearch program and offers courses of study leadingto baccalaureate, M.Sc., and interdepartmental Ph.D.4egrees.

The University of Manitoba is located in Winnipeg, aco~mopolitan city of 60,000, which offers a high qualityof hfe, attractive housing costs, cultural and recreationalopportunities and excellent schools. =Manager ofAnalytical ServicesAn independent contract research and development organization will beconstructing a 12,000 ft' food laboratory complex in Fredericton, NewBrunswick. A Manager of Analytical Services is required to strengthenthe team of technologists and technicians in meeting the expandeddemand for analyses of food and seafood products. In addition to providingdirection to staff, you will refine existing analytical methodology and developnew procedures in response to the availability of more modern laboratoryinstrumentation.

During the construction and transfer of lab facilities, you will playa majorrole in the overall layout and design of the new lab. You will be workingwith agroup of experienced food specialists dedicated to solving clients'technical problems. You will also develop new areas of expertise andbusiness opportunities for analytical services and testing. Your leader·ship skills will ensure that the projects are efficiently managed.

An MSc in any food science and 5 years experience in food chemistryare the basic requirements. The ability to converse in English and Frenchwould be an asset.
