SOCIEDAD PUERTO INDUSTRIAL AGUADULCE
COLOMBIA BUENAVENTURA
The Sociedad Puerto Industrial Aguadulce S.A. (SPIA) terminal is located in the port city of Buenaventura, Colombia's sole cargo gateway to the Pacific, and the first port of call for southbound shipping services to and from the West Coast of South America.
Compared to Colombia’s other ports in the Caribbean, the port of Buenaventura offers the shortest distance to the “Golden Triangle” of the Colombian economy. The “Golden Triangle” refers to the area comprised between the main cities of Bogotá, Medellin and Cali, which jointly account for 70% of the country's GDP, 60% of its population, and 50% of its foreign trade. From the sea, SPIA is accessed through the newly-deepened channel leading to the city of Buenaventura. By land, SPIA has a strategic connectivity advantage relative to the other terminals inside the City of Buenaventura. Its newly commissioned access road not only provides dedicated and direct land access to the improved Bogotá-Buenaventura highway, but also bypasses the increasingly congested city-centre. The terminal started operations in November 2016.
