The  Nashville  Adult  Literacy  Program  teaches reading  to U.S.‐born  adults  and  English  skills  to adult  immigrants  free‐of‐charge  through  a network  of  trained  volunteer  tutors  and  classes throughout  Nashville.   Volunteer  tutors  are recruited,  trained  and  matched  with  adult learners  based  on  schedule  and  location preference and meet continuously with the same learner.   Volunteers  are  asked  for  a  6  month minimum  commitment  with  a  weekly  time commitment of three hours.    Due  to  the  changing  economy  and  a  greater number of  learners, our program needs one‐on‐one  volunteer  tutors  now more  than  ever.   We have a need for tutors all over the Nashville area but are currently experiencing a serious shortage of  tutors  in  the Antioch  area.   If  you  live  in  the Antioch area, we especially need you!  Training is required  for  all  volunteers  and  no  teaching experience is necessary, but you must be at least 18  years  of  age.   Please  contact  our  offices  at 298‐8060  or  [email protected]  for more information  or  visit  our  website  at www.nashvilleliteracy.org.
