What is heat?
Another name for heat is thermal energy.
Heat is the total amount of energy of motion in the molecules of a substance.
EVERY molecule is always moving....so EVERY molecule ALWAYS HAS HEAT!

How is heat measured?
Heat is measured in units called calories.
A calorie is the quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of one gram of water one degree Celsius.
Adding heat makes the molecules move faster, and therefore increases the temperature.

What is temperature?
Temperature is the average amount of energy of motion in the molecules of a substance.
Temperature is HOW MUCH each molecule is moving...the SPEED of the motion.

RADIATION
When electromagnetic waves travel through space, it is called Radiation. When electromagnetic waves come in contact with an object, the waves transfer the heat to the object. Electromagnetic waves travel through empty space.

As a gas or liquid is heated, it warms, expands, and rises because it is less dense. When the gas or liquid cools, it becomes denser and falls.
