London is the capital and most populous city of England. Standing on the River Thames, London is a leading global city, and some consider it to be a cultural mecca. It is among the top of the world’s most-visited cities.
Among London’s most famous landmarks are Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Piccadilly Circus, Saint Paul’s Cathedral, Trafalgar Square, and Big Ben (here pictured). Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London. It is the second largest four-faced chiming clock in the world.
