The cold hard factsBusiness failures rose by 12 percent in 2009 on 2008 and 28 percent on 2007 figures, while personal bankruptcies increased by seven and ten percent respectively.
It’s very difficult to get good figures on business closures and failures; however, more common reasons include inability to manage growth and inadequate cash flow.
An ASIC report showed 40% of Australian businesses fail because of inadequate cash flow.
Queensland accounted for the highest number of business related personal bankruptcies in 2009 at more than 1,000. NSW and Victoria followed with just more than 800 and 560 respectively.
