Wire connection types
CONTA-CONNECT
Screw connection system SRK|RKThe clamping yoke design
The clamping yoke transmits pres-sure from the screw to clamp theconductor against the busbar. Therequired contact force is generatedby the torque applied to the screw.
This system provides a nearly gas-tight connection between theconductor and the internal busbar. The increased torque is generated byan elastic distortion of the terminalbody. This creates increasing threadfriction and results automatically in astronger mechanical grip on theconductor.
Because of its construction, theclamping yoke is able to provide thestrongest contact force and thus thelowest voltage drop. The clampingyoke and the connecting screw aremake from carbonized steel that isgalvanized and chrome-plated.
The advantages of using thepressure-spring connectionmechanism:
Maximum contact force andcontact security
Resistant to vibration
Wire connection range from 0.08 to 240 mm2
The lowest voltage drop
Connection of multiple wires ispossible
Screw connection system RKWire-protected design
The wire-protected design is analternative to the clamping yoke; it isan applications-oriented, affordableand less technically demandingsolution.
This simple connection mechanism isdesigned to be connected one timefor an installation application. Thewire protection feature prevents thewire from being cut off or pushedaway by the screw.
The advantages of using thewire-protection connectionmechanism:
A cost-effective connection mecha-nism
Pressure-spring connectionsystem FRK
The pressure-spring design
The pressure spring design makeswiring convenient and ensures themaximum level of contact security! This connection mechanism unitesthe advantages of the CONTA-CLIPtension-clamp connection systemwith the possibility to connect indivi-dual wire using no tools!
Solid and stranded wires with wire-end ferrules can simply be inserteddirectly into the terminal point. The contact between the wire andthe busbar is automatically estab-lished during this insertion. A stan-dard screwdriver can be used toopen the clamp for release or for theinsertion of stranded wire withoutferrules.
The advantages of using thepressure-spring connectionmechanism:
Wire can be contacted directly notool required
Resistant to vibration
Wire connection range from 0,08 to 4mm2
Easy to work with
Compact shape
Reduces wiring time by up to 80%
Saves much time and money

Tension-spring connectionsystem ZRK
The tension-spring design
The tension-spring functions in amanner similar to the clamping yoke. The tension spring also separates themechanical and electrical functions.
The tension spring consists of high-quality, rust-proof, acid-resistantsteel. This spring presses the wireagainst the busbar. The tensionspring is a connection element whichcan be used quickly and for manypurposes, and which distinguishesitself by being maintenance-free andshock-proof. High resistance tovibration is guaranteed by theunique design of the tension spring.
The advantages of using thetension-spring connectionmechanism:
Resistant to vibration
Wire connection range from 0.08 to 16 mm2
Reduces wiring time by up to 50%
Faster to connect compared to thetension-clamp connection mecha-nism.
Stud connection system HSKThe stud design
Ring cable lugs are used in the studconnection to secure the wires ontostuds. A secure electrical andmechanical connection to the busbaris established.
After attaching the cable lug on thewire, the lug is placed on the studand fastened down using thecounter nut. A spring lock washer isincluded to ensure that the lug doesnot loosen. The wire connectionrange is from 0,2 mm2 to 120 mm2.
The advantages of using thestud connection mechanism:
Can connect power up to 1000 Vand up to 269 A
Resistant to vibration
Can connect multiple wires (up tofour)
Wire cross-sections from 0.2 to120 mm2
Excellent contact force
Low voltage drop
Spade connection system FF|SFThe spade design
In the spade connection mechanism, the wire is plugged onto the terminalblocks busbar using a crimped-onspade cable lug so that no tool isneeded.
The systems rated current dependson the rated current of the cable lugand the corresponding terminalblock. This connection design is usedin routing distribution on the con-trol-signal level, control-voltage leveland for potential/signal multi-plication.
The advantages of using thespade connection mechanism:
Contact with wire establishedwithout any tool (using thecrimped-on cable lug)
Wire connection range from 0.2 to6 mm2
Easy to work with
Can be rewired quickly

Screw connection system SRK | SSL
An overview of the advantages
18
Compact with identical shapes
The external size and shape are identical for the SRK feed-through terminal and the SSL PE terminal in the cross-sec-tions 2.5 mm2, 4 mm2, 6 mm2 and 10 mm2. Identical endplates and partition plates can thus be used. The width(pitch) of the terminal blocks is 2.5 mm2 (5 mm), 4 mm2 (6 mm), 6 mm2 (8 mm) and 10 mm2 (10 mm).Despite their small size, the SRK feed-through terminalsand the SSL PE terminals have a rated voltage range of upto 1000 V.
Large wire-entry bay and connection space
The wire-entry bay is very spacious this permits quickwiring of solid or finely stranded wires, with or without wire-end ferrules. The rated cross-sections specified in our docu-mentation correspond to a connection with stranded wiresusing wire-end ferrules. It is also possible to use solid wiresup to the next larger cross-section size.
Security and stability
The insulated terminal housing with its special foot shapeguarantees a convenient snap-on to the rail and a securemount (on TS 35x7.5 and TS 35x15 according to EN 60715).Metal parts including screws, clamping yoke, busbars, andPE foot are securely mounted within the terminal housing. In addition, the screws are held captive from above by a screwbrake mechanism. The PE terminals (SSL 2.5 to SSL 10) makean electrical and mechanical connection to both sides of therail. It can be snapped on to the rail with no need for screwsand offers a maximum of mechanical and electrical security.
Cross-connection system
The standard feed-though terminals in 2.5 mm2, 4 mm2, 6 mm2 and 10 mm2 feature two cross-connection channels.So the two-pole SQI/2 cross-connectors can be used toconnect any number of terminals with each other.
Distributing potentials
The SQI cross-connectors are available from 2 to 10 poles andwith 30 poles. Two cross-connection channels allow two volt-ages to be fed across when working with the standard termi-nals with rated cross-sections of 2.5 mm2, 4 mm2, 6 mm2 and 10 mm2.
It is possible to shorten the SQI cross-connection with a cut-
ting tool. The SQI system allows you to maintain touch-pro-
tection safety by covering the cut (uninsulated) end with a
SQIK insulation cap.

Resistant to vibration and maintenance-free
Corrosion-free
Low voltage drop
Compact shape
The product line includes terminal blocks that can be
snapped on to TS 15, TS 32/35 and TS 35 rails.
Easy and safe to wire with an establishedconnection system
The screw-connection mechanism is easy to oper-ate and can be used to establish a quick, safe con-nection using solid and finely stranded wires withor without wire-end ferrules.
Simple and self-explanatory usage
Can be used around the world
A connection mechanism that has proven itself
in millions of applications
Generous wire-entry geometry
Connection of multiple wires is possible
The centrally screwed PE foot grips both sides of
the rail to ensure both mechanical strength and
electrical safety.
Possibilities for cross-connections
The pre-assembled Q/QI cross-connection units, availablewith 2, 3, 4 or 10 poles, significantly reduce installationtimes. There are additional advantages with the QI insulat-ed cross-connections when using terminal blocks up to 10 mm2.Because of its angled design, two QIs can be assembledoffset (staggered). Thus it is possible to achieve the parallelguiding of two potentials.
Since the QI is insulated and touch-safe according to VDE 0106 section 100, it is not necessary to use end platesor partitions between neighbouring cross-connection up to400V. The QI cross-connections can carry the rated currentof the terminal blocks. Terminals can be skipped over bybreaking out individual contact poles.

CONTA-CONNECT
Screw connection system RK | SL
An overview of the advantages
26
A connection system proven in millions of applications
The screw connection is still the foundation for industrial-strength connectivity. It can exert very high contact forces in asmall space while still ensuring a high level of contact safety.
Large wire-entry bay and connection space
The funnelled entry into the insulation housing guides thewire smoothly into the clamping yoke. This makes it easy tofeed in stranded and finely stranded wires (even withoutwire-end ferrules) in a safe and smooth manner. The ratedcross-sections specified in our documentation correspond toa connection with stranded wires using wire-end ferrules. It isalso possible to use solid wires up to the next larger cross-section size.
Stability and efficiency
CONTA-CLIP terminal block with the RK screw-connectionsystem are normally equipped with a combi-foot. This ensuresthat the terminal blocks can easily be snapped on to the TS 35 x 7.5, TS 35 x 15 rails (according to DIN EN 50 022)and the TS 32 (according to DIN EN 50 035). When using a C-rail (TS 32) and the device/top-hat rail (TS 35), you can sig-nificantly reduce the number of required terminal block typesin your inventory. Economically, this provides you with a cost-effective solution.
Cross-connection system
You can save time when distributing potentials between ter-minal blocks of identical cross-section ranges when using theQ/QI screwable cross-connection system. The QI has atouch-safe design and, like the Q cross-connection system, isavailable with 2, 3, 4 or 10 poles.
The QI cross-connector variability
Thanks to the angled design of the insulated QI cross-connec-tor, it is possible to guide different potentials in parallel andwithout loss of poles when using the QI system with cross-sections ranging from 2.5 mm2 to 10 mm2.

An overview of the advantages
27
Skip-over bridging
With the standard terminal blocks, it is possible to skip overterminal blocks by breaking out individual contact poles. Acutting tool can be used to shorten the cross-connections. Inthis case, make sure that the cut side is fitted with an endplate so that the voltage rating is maintained.
External cross-connector AQI
The AQI can be used to make a cross-connection for terminalblocks with no cross-connection channel and for applicationsrequiring an additional potential to be cross-connected.
Labelling
High-quality, quick and concise labelling is possible whenusing the PMC SB, PMC BSTR or MC labelling systems. Thestandard terminals feature up to four labelling channels.

Feed-through terminals RK | Measurement pick-off terminals MAG
3838
The RK 50, RK 95, RK 150 and RK 240 terminal blocks are made of a double-layer insula-tion housing. The specialized construction of the clamping yoke minimizes the contact resist-ance between the wire and the busbar. The clamp is tightened using a hex-socket screwwhich creates the required torque together with the clamping yoke. Pegs are located on theplastic housings of the terminal blocks; these lock to adjacent terminals to increase themechanical stability. A threaded M 2.5 bolt can be attached to the injection-moulded pegsin order to further increase the mechanical stability. A diverse line of accessories offers a prac-tical supplement to these products.

Feed-through terminals RK | Measurement pick-off terminals MAG
The features in detail
Measurement pick-off terminal MAG
The MAG measurement pick-off terminals allow you to tapinto the voltage on the RK 50, RK 95, RK 150 and RK 240terminal blocks when using wires with small cross-sectionsranging from 0.2 to 10 mm2. A special socket slot in the RK50 to RK 240 terminal blocks enables the MAG supplemen-tal connections to be added retroactively. They can be inde-pendently snapped on to the base housing of the terminalblocks. MAG terminals are individually snapped into thehousing of the main terminal above the wire entry. The elec-trical contact is then established using the connection screwon the main-wire terminal of the busbar. This technical solu-tion is safe, clever, and simplifies the wiring significantly. Therated voltage is 1000 V because of the total insulation provid-ed by the pick-off terminal. The PMC quick marking systemcan be used for labelling the terminals.
Inlay plate EP
When connecting to rectangular conductors, you arerequired to attach an inlay plate in the clamping yoke. TheEP inlay plates correct the V-shaped form of the clampingyoke to increase the contact area to a maximum on bothsides of the conductor.
Individual covers AD
VDE regulations require that the mains terminals be covered. The yellow AD covers are marked with a lightning bolt sym-bol and are snapped on from above. They cover the screwheads on the terminal block so that the clamping point cannot be reached while under live voltage.
External insulated cross-connection AQI
The RK 50-, RK 95-, RK 150- and RK 240 can be connectedelectrically to each other within the same rated cross-sectionrange by using 2-pole or 3-pole external cross-connectors. Theexternal cross-connectors are designed to match the rated cur-rent of the corresponding terminal block.
