A Mother’s Message It is 10 years since Christopher left us. During this time, I have had many opportunities to share with people who are coping with similar stories. One unfortunate element we have in common is the shame and silence that surrounds substance abuse. It prevents people from getting help sooner... or at all. Upon Christopher’s death, my nephew, Ed, said, “We let one slip through the cracks. How could we do that?” SILENCE did that! Not talking…not reaching out for help. Because of the silence, families do not realize how common this problem is.Substance abuse knows no socioeconomic boundary and it is not caused by bad parenting. Genesis Centers can help prevent more tragedies like Christopher – but people need to reach out for the help. Christopher is gone, we cannot change that. However, WE can facilitate change. We can do away with the shame and silence families struggling with this horrible demon bear. We HAVE something to talk about. By supporting Genesis Centers, we CAN fight the silence…. so no one else slips through the cracks. — Yvonne Schultes Riley, Christopher’s Mom
From the humble beginnings of a tiny office in Collingswood, Genesis
Counseling Centers was born with the mission "to give people a place to
talk, to treat them with respect, and they will grow". Over 30 years and
three locations later, Genesis is still providing people a place to talk. This past year has been a year of growth and change for Genesis
Counseling Centers. Gabe Guerrieri, the founder of Genesis, has stepped
down as Executive Director. The Board of Directors proudly announced
that Barry Bailey would take the reins as the new Executive Director. His
goal- to continue Gabe's original mission, as well as navigate Genesis
through the complex business environment of today. We are celebrating our 10th year of this 5k Run/Walk Event. In those
10 years, the Sponsors of Walk the Talk have ensured that Genesis can
continue important community programs such as:
DUI / IDRC Programs
Early Intervention Program
United Way Case Management Program
Drug Court
Camden County Jail and Second Chance Program
Student Assistance Program
Employee Assistance Programs
